Broken Motor Mount
Discussion
about a week before I started on my cambelt work, there was a loud clanging coming from the engine compartment whenever I stopped, turned, accelerated, etc. (this actually prompted me to finally start doing the work on the cambelt, since the car was undrivable that way anyways.
So on further inspection, it looks like the driver's (left) side rear transmission mount rubber grommet is completely missing.
Do I have to pull the engine in order to replace it? (it looks like this is going to be a yes, isn't it...)
Anyways, at least I suppose that would make it a bit easier to do the cambelt work... I've managed to disconnect the coolant system, and am getting ready to turn the engine and remove the belts, but I'd like to know if I'm going to have to remove the engine anyways to do the motor mount.
thanks,
dan
EDIT- On a second inspection, it looks like I'll just have to remove the lower suspension link somehow... any tips on that?

Dan,
It's very possible to pull the tranny without the engine. I've done it. You should actually be able to simply lift the tranny high enough to replace the mounts.
If you're gonna do some engine work anyway. weigh the advantage of easier work with the effort required to pull the engine. Also, consider how much (read how large your budget) other work you can accomplish to better amortize the effort of pulling the engine such as suspension/brake work. Seriously consider replacing the radius arm bushings if you do. Also, if pulling the engine, consider inspecting/replacing the nyloc washer between the input shaft/crank as these are notorious for going invisibly going away and causing serious engine/tranny damage.
