It Appears my SE is over fueling as the HC's in the emisions are high ( I have removed the cat but they are too high for a non cat car)
The car has a tendancy to die at junctions when hot and idle is sometimes lumpy when hot also the electric fans switch on randomly even when cold.
I have noticed the engine management fault light come on then go off at various times.
It has a non Lotus 4 wire Lambda sensor fitted could this be the problem or could it be the temp sensor?
Any help would be welcomed before having to send it to my local Lotus dealer who is bloody rubbish and expensive.

When did the symptoms appear? When you changed the O2 sensor? I have heard of people having problems with non Lotus O2 sensors. As far as the fans the ECU does control what temps the fans switch on as well as the temp sensor.

I have a 90 SE and experienced the exact same symptoms.
The O2 sensor has to be a 4 wire unit. I replaced my bastardised O2 sensor with an AC delco unit and cured the problem completely. If you want the part # give me a shout at snbrowne4@sympatico.ca

Thanks for the response.

The lambda sensor is a four wire sensor which when put on the latest MOT emisions tester these some how show that the sensor is working within the normal parameters of a typical 02 sensor, that is not to say that this is correct for an Esprit.

I cannot tell when the fault started as I bought the car with the engine running on 3 pots at a good price and then had the head re conditioned to replace a couple of valves.
Since re assembly the car runs on four pots has a good compression but the fueling problem has been their all the time. I would like the Delco product code for the sensor and any info as to where there may be stockists in the UK.
