UN-1 Input shaft seal replacement
Discussion
Helped a friend w/ clutch replacement, on an '89 turbo, this weekend. Turns out, the one that came out was like new, as it was so well lubricated, from both sides. There was gearbox oil dribbling down, along the input shaft, and engine oil was seeping down, below the rear main seal.
So, we pulled the UN-1 out of the engine bay, took the bell housing off, and realized that the input shaft seal may be a bit more of a pain in the skinned knuckles, than we'd originally bargained for. We'd be grateful for the silver bullet fix, to the problem. Have any of you changed this seal, without splitting the transaxle case? Is it possible? Could you share the procedure?
Thanks, and best regards,
Bernard.
