It looks like the liner for my #2 cylinder slipped (for my '83 Esprit) and is in sad shape, so now I'm weighing the options of replacing #2 with the OEM cast piece and having all four liners coated, or just replacing all 4 liners with the HCI liners.

I haven't priced out the cost of coating vs. the cost of replacing with the HCI units. Any suggestions from those more knowledgable than me?

The HCI liners aren't a stright swap, the block needs machining. Check the manual.

Hi,

The cost of the HCI liners is about $1,200 per hole!!! That $4,800 (plus machining) would cover most of the cost of a standard rebuild for very little additional benefit.

They really aren't necessary. How bad is your #2 liner? Often it can be honed or remachined to remove any corrosion due to leakage or moderate scoring. Add a set of forged JE pistons (Oversized if necessary) and you'll have a nice motor. You will also increase the CR from the stock 7.5:1 to 8.5:1 vs. 8.0:1 on the HCI liner and forged piston set. Along with the necessary machining the JE piston set will set you back less than $1,000USD for the entire set.
