I have just done this mod which you all have most likely have heard
about. Got it from Bibs forum
www.glcforum.com/ukesprit/forums/index.php
It's a simple but very effective mod. It definately works on S4
onwards. You replace your existing wiper relay with a VW relay part
number 357 955 531 (This has now been supersed with 3BO 955 531). It
costs about £30 from your VW dealer. I have a few relays spare at
about £15.
You can program it to wipe at 1/2 second upto 30 second intervals.
1.To set it you switch on your wipers to the intermittant setting.
2. Switch it off again.
3. The time in which you switch it back to the intermittant setting
will be the delay time programmed until you switch off the ignition
or reset again.

There will be a full guide on LEW shortly if anyone is interested.

Cheers,

Dave Walters
ps. It's raining outside, going for a spin to have another play with
it!

Are the 15 quid ones programmable? If so I'll have a couple. I got one for that price from Eurospares but it didn't work, so have been reluctant to risk the full £30 at VW
Is there a multibuy discount :-)

I will register on the other forum and look properly, but can you tell me is this a straight plug in and out jobby?

(It almost sounds too good to be true )

Straight plug out your old one which is the front boot nearest the windscreen on the inside row and plug in the new one. I couldn't believe it myself and too was doutbful.
Only have one at the mo but should be getting more in. I know Mark Brittain well so I will give him first refusal on my last one until I get some more.

Mark, I too did reseach on trying to buy them from a Europart type factor. It's only main dealer part I'm afraid. Try German parts, Eurocarparts and many others. all said main dealer. They stock the standard delay relay which is the same as your previous one.
I have this one if you want it. You have first refusal.

Cheers matey, can you stick it next to the spare wheel you're still storing for me!
Might finally be getting a Bluflame exhaust in exchange for an extended period of flogging around the house doing DIY, can we hook up then when I come down??

Took the Esprit out today as it was raining to test the new wiper set up. It's very easy to use and works very well. Had it set to 1/2 second just to see if it worked. Tried all different timing combinations and it'll be a very usefull upgrade for buttons.
Well chuffed.

Has anybody tried it on pre-S4?

I don't think it'll work because the S4 is GM based. I will test one out soon and report back to you.

Did this mod to my car last night. Took all of 20 seconds to swap the relay.. great results. I can now play with the intermittant wiper delay to my hearts content.

I know this sounds very sad, but it IS a great mod. Thanks to Dave for his help.

it isn't sad rob. i made a similar modification last week using a separate relay and 555 timer circuit. i was probably more chuffed than anyone. mine mounts under the binnacle with a little indicator/control panel. i can set the delay time with a potentiometer from 2 to 25 seconds. parts were about $20, excluding plastic case.

Relay works a treat Dave, thanks. Might even treat the rest of the fleet to one when I can sneek it onto the weekly budget.

Glad you like it Mark. I'll try and get some more for others. As soon as I do I'll report back.
