This winter i took off the dellortos off my '79 S2 and polished them up, I didnt remove any jets or turn any screws but after refitting (with new gaskets) the rear dellorto carb seems to be misfiring. I'm intending to pu on some aftermarket filters but before I do that I need this problem sorted. listening to the air intake through a hosepie the front carb seems to drawing in a steady, constant stream of air(chshhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh), but the rear carb sound like its sucking in intermittantly.(chlugga-chlugga-chlugga) I,ve left my esprit book at work so I cant look up the info there. Any info would be a big help.

Could be a vacuum leak. Start the motor, let it idle, take some WD40 or carb cleaner and spray a small amount around the carbs, especially the area where the carbs join the intake. If there is a leak, the idle speed will change.

Otherwise, I would say you changed something during the polishing.

Hi,

Anytime you remove the carbs from the motor you are sure to disrupt their settings. It sounds as if you have the carbs imbalanced.

As mentioned, be sure to check that the soft mounts are tightened properly with the correct gap between spacer/intake manifold and spacer/carb body. Over or under tightening will cause these to leak.

If you are sure the joints are proper w/ no leaks, then proceed to tuning the carbs. You want a tool to do this. The best is a 4-tube manometer. The Hg type are accurate, but potentially messy and toxic, not to mention rather cumbersome due to their height. A better solution is a mechanical manometer such as the CarbTuneII. This allows you to set all 4 barrels both for mixture and balance. Easy to use. They are less than $80USD and sold by EuroCarb - www.dellorto.co.uk Contact Matthew Cooper there for your needs. Hope this helps.
