For a while now I've only been getting cool to luke warm air coming throught the vents (not the outside fresh air vents).
At first I thought it was the heater or a vacuum leak. Last week I double checked to see if I turned it to cold if any cold air would come out. Still luke warm...
Decided this evening in the dark to stip the centre fascia down and get to the bottom of the heater problem. Turned out to be a snapped cable that controls the temperature which apparently is a common problem. I took out the dial and pulled through the cable into the cabin. There was enough cable to cut the outer sheeth and reattach it to the dial again.
Now chuffed to bits as I have a red hot interior and cool when I want it. I should have taken pictures and done an install giude for LEW but it was pitch black, outside with a torch. SO I was anxious to get it fixed quickly and taking pics would have delayed me too much.
I was also on a stopwatch with the missus for my '5 mintunes playtime'!
Job took about an hour and a half due to working conditions and fetching tools from my shed.

Just fixed a similar problem.. in my case the green outer shielding had somehow melted and rendered the cable inoperable. I released the heater core valve and turned it on by hand.. will come up with a better solution when its warm enough to work on the car. The whole HVAC system is one big mess.. I'd love to scrap the whole thing and install something cleaner.

How much has melted and at which end? You might be able to salvage the cable somehow.

greezemunkey , can you pleaset tell me where the heater valve is located and how easy it is to get at it.. I am dying to squirt it with some lube to see if I can get mine working freely.. my cable keeps slipping because it is so stiff..
