Can you upgrade a 91,93 SE U.S. to the S4S ECU? Cost for new unit? Working on a new ride and want to get a car I can upgrade.

Thx Dan

Calvin:

So is it worth it to upgrade the chip? What would you get if you only upgraded the chip?

The idle will be a bit smoother, The turbo will spool up a bit earlier, the 3K stumble will be minimzed, and if I am correct the turbo will boost up to 1 bar or a little passed it. Now Andy Whittaker I hear has a further update that will recalibrate the Mem-Cal for the turbo to kick in somewhere around 2K rpm. I don't know what this will do the engine/turbo life as it will be used a lot more. A good idea would be a BOV to keep the the turbo spooled up in between shifts and take pressure of the compressor fins to keep the turbo backpressure from thinning out the vanes as fast. I am toying around with reprograming the Mem-Cal. I have been in friends Esprit that had this done. Much smoother than a SE but appeared slower. Just an illusion as the pronouced press you in your seat turbo kick of the SE was replaced with a smoother acceleration. I kind of like the SE whack I get around 3K that forcefully pins the driver and passengers in their seat. Sometimes I tell my unsuspecting passenger to get my sunglasses from the glove box and hit full turbo boost. They can not believe it when they can't lean forward enough to open the glove box before the car settles down to over 120 mph and I back off. I wish there was a switch that I could go back and forth between chips.
