I went to have a look at this on Friday and would be grateful for some feedback

http://dealerservices.autotrader.co.uk/GetDealer.do?did=5678&pageid=2

Is this limited edition business simply a rare or indeed a one off colour or is there something else to the car such a mechanical upgrade? The car is with a SOR dealer in town and to be polite a detailed knowledge of all things esprit is not on the cards so some help on this is needed.

It seems a little on the full side regarding price, where would more knowledgeable lotus types see it?

Many thanks

Certainly rare! Never seen another one in that Colour!

Does look expensive, for over £35k You ought to be looking at a 2002my car (revised back lights etc) and at 22k miles its not particualry low mileage for an Esprit of that age, Personally I see the colour as a negative, cant see it being worth over £30k

IF it is an official limited edition its looks to me purely the colour scheme, as it has standard wheels and spoilers for an Esprit Gt of that era.

Only mechanically upgraded Esprit was the 350 Sport

Seems a bit pricey, but someone else will advise better on that. The colour is gorgeous though, very retro.

Yep, I'd agree on the price front. A 1999 Sport 350 will set up back £30k. When you think they were £65k and the GT was £50k new, then £35 seems way over the top. The colour does not make it any more special to my mind.

Hi there, car looks fantastic, one of my favourite colours! Way over the top price though.
I know a guy who's selling his S350 on a V plate with 9K miles, 1 owner for £35K. This would be a far better buy and will not lose as much money as this one. The S350 is the one to go for IMO.
I reckon this one is worth about £28K.
As a rule of thumb over mileage, most sources say that you should base the mileage on about 5K a year for these cars. So around 20K it should be on for this year.
There was also a S350 with 19K for £29950 in Yorkshire but not sure if it's sold now.

Overpriced by about 10k imo.

Also, check that it IS actually a 2000 model year. There were several 99 model year cars registered in 2000. If it is a 2000MY year it should have AP brakes rather than brembos. AP's are much better than the brembos.

Ahh....Opel Manta Gold!

It's just the colour and there's 4-5 ish in that scheme. The press car was one of them (no air con & regd in '98), I know for definate of another (with sports seats & higher miles) and heard tales of one more that got a bit biffed which consequently is no longer with us So this must be the fourth or fifth....of how many exactly I'm not entirely sure. Just had a thought - does this one have a red leather interior?

I'd agree with the others though and say it was a bit pricey, too. I like the colour but would be dubious about buying it purely because it's not to everyone elses taste which would have to be reflected in price when selling.

Many thanks for the assistance on this one.

I haven’t been back to inspect the car since I first posted armed with all this information as frankly it hasn’t really been Esprit test drive type weather.

Although I rather like the colour (apologies for that) the bottom line is it does seem to be very much on the high side particularly when Stratton Motor Company have got one of the very last cars built for sale at the moment for only a few grand extra just up the road

It seems who ever the owner of the car is needs to be thinking mid twenties if he wants to be taking the loot of me.

Cheers! The power of Pistonheads.
