Iam taking my spare smooth licence plate holder to my CF guy this week to get a quote. Last time I spoke to him we spoke about prices etc.
They will be availible in CF or GRP. Iam making them really for CF purposes.
First the mould needs to be made then a batch of 6.
Prices are expected to be about £100-120 for the CF version and £60-70 for the GRP version.
I will try and get the price down as best as possible. I will have to put a small mark up for time organising, travelling the 50 mile round trip a numbe of times. I won't be adding my time into this one as it's for a hobby and really to just get one myself at a reasonable cost.
So anyone interested? I thought Paul made sounds about having one but don't know if you still want one.
BTW, it's a UK version one Iam making. I think there is already someone in the US who has made them on the TurboEsprit group.

Thanks,

Dave Walters

I'll have one of the CF ones too as long as it stays in that price range.
What about making the surrounds to the rear lights in CF as well? That way everything that is black plastic in the rear (that's what dates the rear IMO) will be CF.

Now come to think about it, the rear black lip as well as the front lip halves would look good in CF as well...

Bob Metz has one USA version left the last I heard.

Just out of curiosity how does the carbon fiber hold up on exterior pieces? The exterior pieces I hace seen seems to degrade quickly in the sun.

Hi Calvin,

A thick gelcoat layer in the mould first protects it from the sun. The roofs I have made give the appearance of a glass finish with the weave under the surface.

Hi Andy, you're best trying to get the US one from the guy Calvin has just mentioned. I know this is probably doing myself out of one here but would prefer that you had the right one and save shipping at the same time.
If you still want one then I will be glad to supply you.
Iam looking at the lights too. I have a spare set for them to make a mould. Will get some prices. May make a mask so you see more carbon and less lights.
Will get back to you on this.

Cheers,

Dave
Would this be an oppurtunity to "mould out" that stupid step in the lamp surrounds that makes it look so obviously a parts bin special???????

I wanted to colour code my plate plinth but that little intrusion looks plain daft.

Not sure about the "mask" idea, a bit Max Power?? Would it not stick out a bit??

Hi Dave

I am in Australia and the cars here have the Euro/UK spec, so your version of the plinth is the one that I want

Thanks Andy, I'll put your name down. I'll e-mail you off-line.

I've just spoken to another guy who makes GRP and CF. He's having a go at making the mould tommorrow. If all is well, price should come down too as he's a friend of mine. This should be good news for the buyer. Will keep you posted when I have some news.

Hi Rens,

That's great, as soon as I see one out of the mould I will be able to confirm prices which is expected to be less if my friend can make them.

Dave,

As far as I know the US spec ones are no longer available as there were a limited number made and all are gone with no plans to make any more.

Would you consider making the US spec plinths? I would take one for sure and I'm sure there would be others.

Thanks

HI there, I would consider it if I had a blank to take a mould. In my personal opinion, it would be far chepaer to get someone over your side of the pond to save the crippling shipping charges.
If you and others still want one then we'll talk off-line.
Have you tried contacting the guy who made the last batch?

The good thing about the ones Iam having done is I'll get each one made to order after the initial half dozen. No need to build up silly numbers to have batches made. Not enough supply and demand...
