Hello, I am new. My name is Chris from the Netherlands, 33 years old and a total layman on cars and Esprit's. I would be gratefull If I could ask some questions. My first problem ...

I recently bought a 1990 Esprit SE. On my second drive after 250 miles, about 10 minutes before I got home, the Coolant Tell Tale started burning. I drove home and once I stopped, there was a lot of water vapour coming from under the hood. I opened it and checked for a smell. There was no burning smell whatsoever. What could be the problem?

Greetz,
Sounds like you blew a hose somewhere or at least developed a small leak. Refill the system, start it up and look for where the steam is coming from.

Might be a bad water pump. That's my guess as it happened to me. Be sure to keep a close eye on coolant level or it'll turn into something far more serious.

I had a series of stretched (and thus weakened) skinny Lotus-original hose clamps that dripped coolant around the rad to heater pipes when I first bought my car. These clamps had limited clamping pressure because the threads were raised (not cut into) on the metal band.

Thicker worm-gear (Trico-brand) clamps made of stainless steel solved the problem.
