New Turbo - NO BOOST
Discussion
I have been reading all the coments left on the forum about no-boost conditions, but this one has me stumped. I sent my turbo in for rebuild after a complete mechanical failure. What was returned to me looks nothing like what I sent off, Turbonetics did an awesome rebuild on my turbo. I put the new turbo in, checking every hose connection carefully, several times, and I was very careful about this, and reset the ECM. The car runs perfectly as far as I can tell, but still no boost at 3K. The boost gague moves only the slightest bit. I have adjusted the length of the wastegate arm, but nothing has allowed my Esprit to boost. There is a hose that connects from the air intake to a small "thing" with 2 wires, this "thing" then connects to my wastegate arm. Any ideas what this does, I did not find it in the workshop manual.
Many Thanks for all the great posts,

I am no expert my any means, but I do know that this object you speak of is a solenoid. It take operates on frequency signals from the ECM, and it literally controls the wastegate. I might be able to tell you more in a few days. I have the complete shop manual for '89 to 92 Esprit, but it is presently with my car in the shop.
Check for a registered fault code using your onboard diagnostics. You can activate it by shorting leads "A" and "B" on the ALDL that is located in the rear "boot" (as the Brits would say, no disrespect intended). There are instructions for doing this on the espritfactfile web site.
Install the short. Then turn on the ignition. The code 12 will flash three times on the “Check Engine” light. This is normal. Then there will be a slight pause, and then the system will begin to flash any fault code that might be registered in the computer. Each registered code will also flash three times. Don’t worry if you don’t catch the codes the first time through. The system will repeat the process, or you can start over. If there are no codes registered in the computer, code 12 will flash repeatedly. Let us know if you come up with some fault codes.

I believe I have solved this problem. It seems the contents of the cat converter fell down into the exhuast causing a partial blockage. This would allow the car to run normally, but not allow exhaust to flow frealy enough to spin the turbin on the Turbo. After manually creating a small exhaust leak near the EBP valve, I was able to get .4 bar boost from my new turbo. Many thanks to Jeff at JAE and Calvin for their helpful hints. Neil's exhaust is on order from JAE, which should solve my problem completely. Thanks for all your help.

Way to go Ryan!!!! Glad the phone calls were not in vain. Maybe we will get to meet each other at LOG in Sept. with a couple of hundred other owners. If you get Neil's SS exhaust from JAE you still might have to fabricate a straight pipe to replace the cat. If you need a really nice SS cat Marcus at Moto-Concept has one to go with the SS cat back muffler.
