TPS Only Goes to 95%: How to Adjust Throttle Cable
Discussion
4 cyl:
There are two places to adjust it. One is on the pedal itself. Assume the lotus position with the appropriate spanner (13mm?) Screw the stop nut in until you have full travel. The second area is at the throttle bodies where the cable attaches to the intake manifold. Loosen the lock nut (10mm, if I recall), back out the adjusting screw.
I have heard that the pedal end bends, leading to the reduced WOT. Haven't looked into that yet.
I suggest you look at the cable with nothing on the pedal. Is it loose at the throtle bodies? Tighten the throttle body end. Have your helper put the pedal to the fiberglass and back the screw out until you have WOT and still have a little slack with no foot on the pedal. If it is not loose at the throttle bodies, tighten the pedal end until you achieve WOT.

Thanks, but I'm a little confused.
The cable has a little slack at both ends. Not a lot, but it's not taught either.
Should I adjust at the TB or pedal end?
Also, when adjusting the pedal am I actually adjusting the cable (I don't see how)or the bolt that stops the pedal from travling?
Thanks Doc.
Luke.

Hi Luke,
Yes, everything above 96% is a magic number. Only when TPS is between 96-100% the ECU will switch into open loop and give you the maximum power )
Cheers

Worth checking whether the 95% means the throttle plate is not opening fully (pedal/cable/throttle assy issue) or the throttle pot is saying 95% when the throttle is fully open (throttle pot calibration issue).
I adjusted the bolt and got it to read 100% so I imagine that was all it was. Thanks.
Luke.
Ok after many years driving the esprit with less than full power, which is a HUGE difference when you do this,, it is so FAST unbelievable difference.
hope this helps everyone..
go to Lowes, or Home Depot and get these items:
J Bolt, 3/16 any thicker you may damage the TONGE on the pedal itself when you drill it..
I drilled in the CORNER of the L Tonge you see in the photo and bent it a little CAREFULLY..
I used a DRIMEL with any bit that is small and then grove in circular motion as needed so you dont damage it..
NOTE: I removed the seat, BOLTS are under the car, very easy to remove with a 13MM Wrench
THen I though I could get under the steering wheel which is a night mare, so what I did is get from the passenger seat and place my big ass where the seat was and worked with my LEFT HAND.. not hard but be careful if you are not a LEFTY
The reason I used the hook above, is that I could not find the correct length of the J BOLTS, either too long or too short
too long will hit the wall as you push the pedal in..
also use a washer locking one just incase.. and don't tighten too much
let me know if you have questions
