Thanks to Paul C.,Lotusse89&Superdave for your respones.
A couple follow up questions if I might:as the S3 Turbo evolved (1980-1987)did the interior room increase? I've tested a '78 S2 and a '86 S3 Turbo HC, the latter seemed to have a bit more room. My imagination?
Secondly, it appears as though the bolsters on the seat bottoms could be reconfigured to provide a less snug fit(please,no remarks about diet or exercise) .Does anyone have any experience reshaping this part of the seat?

Hi,
Though you would have to try them yourself, late Esprit models (the S4s for sure) had the option of 'sports' or 'comfort' seating. Maybe the latter fitted to an earlier car?
Must add, having sat in the 'comfort' seat, i don't remember it feeling too different to my SE's seat, so i assume a shoehorn is required for the 'sports' one...

Hi I borrowed and 83 S3 for a day recently but could hradly drive it. I think it may be the dash board finishing lower because my knees kept hitting it. Or another possible reason is that the seats are thicker in the older cars giving the same symptoms. They do appear to look like armchairs compared to the later style seats. Answer, buy thinner seats, maybe buckets.
