Hey guys,

I need new tires on my Lotus.

I have the S4 wheels. 215/40/17 for the front,245/45/17 for the rear.

What are some of my options? Id like something that performs well and lasts very long. Any ideas?

I run pilot sports on both my VR4 and my Supra MKIV. They last a good long time, and are all around good tires. Always a trade off on tire wear vs. grip.

Khumo's are ubersticky, but are so cheap they're worth replacing over and over (They don't last long). Excellent dry traction, damn near race compound.

Full tread Toyo RA-1s are great grippy tires too. While not as good in the wet as the Pilot Sports, they can be run in the rain and as an "R" compound tire are unequalled in the dry.

I've had a set on my car for about 7k. They are getting down to the wear bars, but 7k (and two track weekends)ain't bad for an "R" tire.

Goodyear F1 GSD3

I've had good luck with them.

Sticky, great in the wet, quiet, super ride. Probably as good as the Pilot Sports and cheaper.

I got khumo MX for my s4s [245/45/17 and 215/40/17] and they blow away the eagle gts that were on there. So smooth and grippy.. AWESOME!

Try TireRack.com Great prices and they currently have Michelin in stock if you search by size.
I have Michelin on the MX-5 and after the other brands... I like Michelin. I currently have BFs on the Esprit as they were new when I bought the car and are a long way from needing to be replaced...

Invictus - autocar magazine ran a tyre test a few weeks back. Top performing "high-performance" tyres were Bridgestone S03 and Goodyear Eagle F1-GSD3. Goodyear is better than Bridgestone in the wet, Bridgestone better than Goodyear in the dry.

try www.mytyres.net - i've always had good results on the prices from these guys. prices include delivery to uk.

Caveot of a used car. and local retailer does not seem to care about defective tire..

BOOOO dunlop.

Problem is there is a lot of life left in them so i am suffering thhe shakes as i wear them out.
I just put Pilot Sport PS2 on my M3 and they seem really good.

I'm going to second this motion. I tried Bridgestone Pole Positions and they tramlined like crazy and it was extremely rough ride. Though they did stick to the road. I sent them back (30 day return policy) and got the Eagle GSD3's. They were even smoother than the older Dunlops I was replacing and clear to the other range in smoothness compared to the Bridgestones. I'm very happy with them and the tread is cool too!
