p/s noise?

hi i have a o3 1/2 esprit.is it normal for the v8 esprit to hear the p/s pump at idle?i checked the fluid its full.

Are you sure it's the power steering pump? I've not heard them make noise before. There is an electric air pump in the left rear section that runs when the car is first started (emissions) but usually turns off once the car warms up. Perhaps that's what you're hearing.

As a check, you could pop the serpentine belt off the power steering pump pulley and see if it makes noise when you turn it or perhaps doesn't turn freely

its for sure p/s noise at idle i can hear it up in front just a little whine.i hat to take it to the dealership its like 60 miles away and tough to get there in the mornings.

Well, please define the "whine up front"... after all, the p/s pump is behind you. Not trying to be a wise guy... just trying to get a better idea of where the noise is coming from.

If the noise is coming from up front the only pump that could be running is the Abs pump(no other pumps up there)......but if it was the Abs pump you would have a Abs light flashing.....probaly!

thanks for allyour inputs.i took the side cover off on the left rear and checked the p/s fluid.it was a little low.no signs of any leaks,possibly never checked when it was in pre delivery inspection.
