I dyno'd the S4 again today at a local dyno day. She did better than last time, but still disappointing. I did a max of 233 WHP and 240 ft/lbs and according to a mechanical boost gauge I was peaking out at 20psi and slowly droping to a steady 15!! ..so I don't think boost is my issue. It was also a pretty cool day plus since each run was better than the last I don't think heat is the culprit either.

***ignore the A/F ratio, I kept blowing the sensor out the pipe***

***old chart from a couple months back***

Was th first run on a different dyno than the last three?

Care to give a brief re-cap of mods/maintenance between pulls/ basically what was different? You sound dissapointed.

This is a plot from my 90SE with first gen S4S code,K&N, Quicksilver downpipe, Motoconcept exhaust.

Hi,
233 at the wheels is exactly what I would expect from a S4 with S4s-code.

285HP - 18% (drive-train loss) = 233HP

Cheers
Marcus

Thanks Marucs.

That was right before I installed your +25% clutch kit. Just installed Red-race code as well, and am curious as to what the next dyno run will show.

Considering they have 265bhp as stock at the fly, is 233bhp at the wheels really that bad?

Considering it was a cool day and I have the S4s (#3) Code, over 1 bar of boost, and no muffler, and most every one else is getting in the 260s I'd say it is bad. Look at Htown's chart. 300 ft/lbs! That's 60 more then me. What's the deal?

Two different Dynos -- both Dynojets -- same setup up, only cooler weather.

What sort of shape is the clutch in? Sounds like you're making power,(well, at least good boost) just not putting it to the ground. 20lbs is a lot of boost to throw at a stock clutch. Everything else in decent shape? ie., timing, ignition system, clean plugs/air filter&hosing etc...? A bad oil seperator can let quite a bit of oil back into the airbox, dramatically reducing the effective octane. Good gas? Mine was on 93.5 octane pump. Just throwing all this out there....there has to be a way to 'wake this car up'. Whatever it is, it's no big deal. Shoot, my car was so confused the first six months I had that there was no check engine light AT ALL!, and boost was limited to somewhere around .5-.6 bar. One day the CEL came on with the typical code 26. Chased it down to a bad ground, and the car has run superb ever since.

Lastly, I'd be curious to see what the results would be with a de-cat run. I noticed quite a difference with the test-pipe.

Honeslty, I don't know. I'm sure it could use new plugs and an air filter cos I don't have records of those being replaced. What and where is the oil seperator?

Georgia's finest: 93 octane. :-)

Thanks for your help man, I know it is something, and I'll bet it's somthing dumb.

Besides the suggestions above I will be getting a hi-flo cat and bigger pipes from the turbo back. I have 'em, but getting a system made is a dfferent story.

There are two hoses that come off of the airbox. The large air intake hose to the turbo, and below and forward of that hose there is a smaller one that goes to the oil seperator which is a blue plastic piece. Tough to see though. Just follow the hose away from the airbox. These pics can explain in all better than I can. I don't use a catch-tank like you see here, i just keep it all really clean. Including removal of the airbox to turbo hose frequently to clean. Filter condition, and plugs would be the first things I would check.

P.S. pic of my airbox for good measure....

Craig's (Htown) dyno run was done at 5300ft altitude. Though Paragon does apply compensation for the change in barometric pressure. I have no idea if their compensation is correct for a car with an absolute MAP system like the Lotus SE????

I should take my stock 89SE to Paragon and see how it compares to Craig's 90SE.

Travis,
Let me know about when you want to go to Paragon. The Owner is an old customer of mine, and will surely help us out. I'd like to run again as well. Cat is back on right now (emissions is due) but added a Red-Race chip. Curious to see the differences. Just PM me.
