Not only did I get to see some fine cars but I was also able to shake the hand of the creator of the Esprit Fact file website( http://espritfactfile.com/ )... and what an awesome car he has!!

Here is one of the cars there... (the other photos were taken with a 35mm camera and those will have to wait until I send the rolls to be develop)...

I am sure we will get a post from the event from Karl or Ernest (they won in the Lotus category) www.tscevents.com/foec/foec_awards04.html

Great event, nice cars, nice people, great weather, over all a great family day today.

...and here you go:

Concerning Karl's win (and the fact that he doesn't like to brag - so I will for him). This is his second win for that show, so he moves up to the SENIOR class next year and competes head to head with all of the other super exotica. We also found out that his car was considered for "Best Of Show" this year.

Jaime (wachuko),

I wish you would've have identified yourself so I would have known it was you. Thanks for the compliments on my car; I'm glad you liked it. Are you planning on buying an Esprit? Even though you currently drive a Porsche, you're always welcome to join us in our Lotus activities; we don't discriminate to other sports car brands

Ernie,

You're too kind. Great pics as usual. I will post a few that I took at a later date. There's just no way I can compete with your speed of putting up a web site after an event!

AND NOW HERE'S WHAT ERNIE DIDN"T TELL YOU:

Unfortunately, the judges admitted that they screwed up and took a point off for his car when they shouldn't have. The rules specifically state that it is OK to have aftermarket audio/video and telecommunication equipment as long as the installation is neat, unobtrusive, and does not detract from the original appearance of the car. In Ernie's case, they penalized him for his professionally installed Alpine nav system. Had this mistake not been done, Ernie's car would have been considered a 100 POINT CAR (which I believe it really is).

These guys also put a lot of emphasis on originality. This may be a vital quality for other marques where modifications detract from the value of the car. But everyone knows that almost every single Esprit has been modded and customized. That is what makes our cars special and unique. Good thing the judges don't know enough about Esprits to know what is/is not standard. Considering all the mods people here make to there cars and since the rules state that a car must be at least 90 points to get first place, the Lotus category would never have a first place winner.

Anyway, please join me in congratulating Ernie on his win. I wish we could have shared first place (we swap first and second places all the time anyway). The good news is that Ernie is almost guaranteed to win first place next year.

Hey Karl...

Don't forget that I also have to put my car on a dynamometer - they told me to (inside joke)...

ErnestM

PS: I also had some scratched paint on my boot latches, so Karl would have still beaten me because his car was 100 points!

Interesting one off Ferrari in the pics ernest, did you get a close look? I seem to remember it was called the Michelotti Meera and was built in '81-'83 for a Saudi princess or something. Always interesting when these one-offs surface after so long.

Got it in one!

I was waiting for somebody to guess. Yes, there where actually a few built as prototypes but where utimately delivered to customers IIRC to recoupe some of the costs.

This thing had a rear view camera and all sorts of strange stuff (at least for the early eighties).

I've got a link around here somewhere. I'll have a rummage and post it. They had the original brochure for the vehicle displayed in the back seat, but I didn't get much closer than looking through the window. The dash/console had a strange upward slope (but then again, early eighties was rife with strange dashes)...

Yes, not Michelottis finest hour (actually hadn't he died by then and been replaced by a japanese stylist? The one who blessed us with that horrible little Reliant 2 seater Scimitar?)

I did not know they made it in series, I remeber seeing it in the "World Car" types of yearbooks but thats all. The one for the Saudi princess I think had canary yellow leather!

Mark:

According to Barrett it was a one off, but I seem to remember reading somewhere else that there where three. The one sold at Barret could actually be the one at the show considering the title. I also believe it was one of Ger Petrik's cars which makes sense. He is the sine q'on non of car collectors in Florida (and a thouroughly nice chap as well!)

I know its a hell of a lot of money in absolute terms, but $50k for a unique Ferrari doesn't seem too bad.
