I am considering replacing the engine in my 1988 Esprit Turbo with a '91 turbo engine. The '91 engine is supposedly complete with the GM engine management system, turbo chargecooler, etc. while the engine I would replace has the earlier Bosch fuel injection system. I would appreciate any feedback considering this change; specifically what modifications would be required (if any)to items such as fuel pumps, elecrical connections to engine, dash lights, etc. The car was already setup to accept the water lines from the chargecooler.

I would very much appreciate any feedback.

Thanks,
Steve Mace

I am converting my 88 to electronic fuel injection, and just getting the wiering in hooked up is a real pill. It will take about a 1 to 2 mounth depending on how busy your mechaince is.
How are you planing to hook up the intercooler?

I figured that the electrical would be the big problem in the conversion. I have no idea what to do about an engine wiring harness. I might just retain the current engine with Bosch FI and add a custom intercooler to the car. I think that this would give me more than the switch to electronic FI.

The car is already equipped with 2 liquid to air heat exchangers in the front valance with two heater hoses running back to the engine bay and a crossover hose between the 2 heat exchangers. I think that these were intalled for the purpose of connecting to a chargecooler.

Thanks for the reply!

Hello,
The main reason for considering the change is that I am considering purchasing a very low mileage '91 engine to replace my current high mileage engine. Of course the other option would be to rebuild and retain the current Bosch FI system, which is actually quite simple and reliable.

I am definitely going to set up an intercooler (probably custom) with an electric water pump and also fit the system with a turbo bypass valve to increase turbo response.

Thanks for the reply.
