Heat problems on V8
Discussion
Hi Niclas,
first check your vacuum and your vacuum hoses under the dashboard. Maybe one of these came off.
Also, please check the vacuum operated diverter valve that actually feeds the hot coolant to the heater-core.
Please report ...
Cheers

Hi Niclas,
From what I've read you have a pre 98 V8 right?
I had a few probs with my car when I first got it too.
One thing that confused me a lot was I found in order to get heat out you need to turn the air direction dial (right) fully anti-clockwise, and obviously the same with the air temperature (left) - hot air should now come out of the dash vents but not out of the 'eyeball' directional vents in the binacle / lower dash. (forgive me if you already know this).
A series of problems caused mine to not produce any heat.
1) The bowden cable came loose on the air temperature dial preventing the dial doing anything - to check this you have to remove the stereo completely to check behind the air controls and see if the outer sheath or the cable itself has come loose from the dial mechanism.
2) The vacuum line was not moving the divert valve as the solenoid had jammed. Basically when you start the car the vacuum system moves the divert valve across so that coolant can flow into the heater matrix. On my UK spec car this relay is situated under the passenger side rear quarter trim, there is a small black relay there with a valve on it which applies or vents vacuum to the divert valve situated on the underside of the car practically inbetween the 2 footwells - it's visable but not accessable really unless you lift the car up.
I took the trim out, and checked the vacuum presence on the divert valve line - there was none. I manually operated the solenoid a few times which seemed to free the valve up providing a vacuum to the divert valve and now it seems to work fine.
It's not the easiest of systems to describe without pictures / diagrams. If I can get my rear end in gear I'll finish my personal website which will show the maintenance I have done on the car.
Regards

Tried finding this too as it was a good point to start fault finding. I believe its right next to the heater matrix which is burried right into the dash / bulkhead - I chased the cable through but lost it when it entered this area and then gave up, way too much effort to get into there !
been under the dash a few time chasing that green cable... still not sure how to get at it.. could it be under the car?
My valve is verystiff to move, the cable seems free but keeps slipping. I am afraid to tighten that little screw any more...just one drop of oil in the right place could make everything ok..

Hello mate - I also have a heating issue, in fact the system did little hot or cold until I had it checked, now the air con iis very cold but there is no heat at all - can you confirm if this is the same symptoms?
Also, I dont seeem to have any air coming out of the venting on top of the binnacle - what is this symptomatic of?
Any help, greatly appreciated!
Mark
