If you're feeling brave - buy that and add this : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lotus-Esprit-Engine-Lotu...

The seller is an Esprit trader. So if it was worth fixing compared with retail value then he would have fixed it himself. Use engine is an easy way to go but unknow quantity. You don't know where it's come from and mileage and SH for the engine. I think you get a very limited warranty, something like 7-14 days to see if it fires up then that's it.
Colour is a bad one to sell as these always take ages to sell. There are ones in this colour that been up for several years.
I had briefly considered it but I would have to change the colour. There are so many unknowns i.e a used engine, if it's compatible with the current ECU (EGR valve etc), cats, radiator, gearbox, clutch. It can soon add up if other parts of the car need doing. I know a guy who bought a 98 V8 GT on Ebay for £12K with fully working engine but tatty conditiion. £10-12K later with engine failure, ECU problems, radiator, cats etc and he still has a working but tatty V8 which has now cost £22K+. He could have gone out and bought a really mint low mileage one and without all those trips to the garages.

I see this was sold yesterday for £9400 to a zero rated Ebay user?
Would be interested to see if this was a genuine bidder and sale actually goes through.

This car was bought from ebay about a month/ two months ago by Mark from Stock Coachworks. They are a Lotus specialist. Stock is on the borders of Billericay.
I saw it in there while having work done on mine and was told he bought it to repair and sell at a profit.

I can only assume if he sold it still with the issues then it was far worse than he initially anticipated and wouldnt get the financial return he was hoping for therefor shifted it quick via the bay.

That will be the same Mark who advertises in the back of the Club Lotus magazine as a "private buyer".

I've no problem with people making an honest living from buying and selling but if you're a trader you shouldn't pretend otherwise.

As far as I know he works for Stock but does indeed buy and sell privately. he uses the company he works for to do repairs etc at a hugely discounted rate then reaps the benefits himself. Also no obligations to offer a warranty that way. Not particularly honest but all work I have had done by Stock Coachworks is very very good.
