hey guys,

I have an 88 turbo, I always had trouble starting it as it turns over about eight times before it fires. I spoke to a specialist and he reckons it was beacuse the battery used didnt pump out sufficient power to turn the starter quick enough to fire up straight away.

As my battery was dead and I had a volvo 850 sitting around with a new battery I thought 'why not'.

The battery is bigger but.... fits straight into the esprit clamp, terminals right way/fitting. result was car fired up first and everytime since.

Might be a better option for anyone else neediing a new battery, I think it was also cheaper too.

I've fitted a bigger battery in my V8 too. It's about 3cm taller than the original but fits just fine in the recess and clamp. The alarm system seems to drain the standard battery a bit too quickly.

cranking amps usually isn't enough, my old Halfrauds recommended battery was low by 100 or so even though it was on their list as 'for the Esprit'. Looked in the workshop manual and it gave a significantly higher requirement..

google optima batteries, good bit of kit but expensive
