1986 Esprit Third Party Inspection
Discussion
Morning all, looking to fill the space in my garage and looking at purchasing the following car:-
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3873249.htm
Currently out of the country on business and need a recommendation of an independent specialist to view the car for me. The car is at UK Sports Cars in Kent. Any ideas?

It's a shame the old southrun site has gone. The dealer reviews there were very enlightening. OP - there will be other cars and other dealers.
ETA : I'd be surprised if UKSC would let any other specialist inspect one of their cars.
EATA : The wayback machine has a copy of Southrun up to 2010 : http://web.archive.org/web/20100413131903/http://w...

Did you phone Chris Foulds Motors and ask them about the car?http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3873249.htm

Seems to me the guys who have been working on that particular car over a period of time may know more about it than either the current seller or an "expert".
They may also be willing to supply you with the previous owners name and phone number, a talk with he or she may be a good indication of how cherished and looked after it was.
You obviously like the look of the car which is a good start, sure you may have some jobs to do on it to bring it up to scratch but the thrill and enjoyment of owning such a great looking car may make up for the $$$ spent.

This car was on the market around a year ago for around 12-14 big ones i belive. It was being sold by a private vendor. Car looks good and may well be in top nick.
Uk sportscars do not have the best reputation as discussed above. they do have a fair few esprits go through them though. Some of which are good cars but others not so. I wouldnt avoid the car altogether but i would be very vigilant. Take along a lotus specialist to look round the car (just dont tell the folks at UKsportscars you intend to do this).. most esprit buyers are anoraks anyway!
regards,
Jon

Thanks for the replies, not quite what I was hoping but that's what I wanted honesty. In no hurry to buy, so if anyone knows a good Mid eighties turbo let me know!
Scott Walker is your man; http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3943536.htmFrom what i read on here, he's an enthusiast and knows Lotus inside and out, not quite a 'Guy Munday' but definitely has some peaches on his site. I'm sure others will chip in with comments about SW?
Got my GT3 from Scott, I highly recommend. My car is pretty much mint - he's ensured it was that way before releasing it to me. From the stock I peered at when visiting him both occasions, mine wasn't the only minter.
Hard to find these days, but a trustworthy source for any Lotus and he knows Esprits inside out.

Ben! Its official, I HATE YOU!!! I used to look at that GT3 every day and drool over it. As a previous V8 owner, i've wanted a GT3 for ages, but things being what they are and my various work commitments, i'm forced to torture myself on a daily basis.Hard to find these days, but a trustworthy source for any Lotus and he knows Esprits inside out.
One day........one day......
