need some advice guys,

I have just replaced the wheels on my Lotus Esprit. The ones I took off were almost brand new. Upon further inspection I have found out they are the 3 piece split rims that were on the uber rare esprit x180R sold in the states (only 20 were made).
The only info I can find is that these wheels are extremely rare and very expensive.
I am now having second thoughts about selling them, if they are that rare- are they worth hanging onto?

thoughts?

Hi James,
What wheels have you replaced them with?

Cheers,

Ged

James,
The Revolution Wheels used on the Esprit were as follows:-

Esprit X180-R
Used 3 Piece Revolution Wheels

Front 8.5Jx16 ET 31mm
Rear 9.5Jx16 ET 19mm

93 MY USA Esprit SE had One Piece Revolution Wheels (look like X180-R)
Front 7.0Jx15 ET 23.3mm
Rear 8.5Jx16 ET 30mm

First you need to check the spec of the wheels that you have and see if they match the list above.
Then you have to bear in mind that these were bought either as a kit of "off the shelf" parts in the case of the 3 piece split rims and off the shelf in the case of the one piece for the US market.

Then it's a case of what you consider the value to be to hang on to these wheels. IF they are genuine X180-R wheels from a genuine X180-R from the US in the early 90s, then what is the value to you? How do you prove their provenance to anyone else? As you said, only 20 cars were built, so it's highly unlikely that a set found it's way across the pond.
If they aren't genuinely from an X180-R, then you may find out that you could make some up today using the same parts off the shelf as per the originals.

I am not saying that they are genuine or otherwise, valuable or of no value, just trying to help.

Simplest way to look at it is, if you like them over your standard wheels then keep them, if not then see what you can get for them.

Hope this helps,

Ged
