Just thought I would introduce myself. The name is Roger and I live in Plettenberg Bay in the Southern Cape of South Africa and I am the trustee and owner of two 1984 Lotus Esprit Turbos and a 1989 Lotus Excel SE. I have owned over 50 cars over the last 50 years of driving and have had the pleasure of owning two Lotus Super 7 clones, made by Birkin Cars and also an original 1969 Lotus 61 wedge, which I sold in the U.K. in 1986 and I believe is now racing in historics.

For interest, the one Esprit has been modified with throttle bodies and common rail injection using an aftermarket EFI which is controlled both by a throttle position sensor and Turbo boost pressure. The increase in performance is truly amazing.

My first Esprit Turbo was purchased in 2005 and my second one in 2008. The Excel followed in 2009.

All kept in pristine condition too, any more details/pics on the throttle bodies.

Oh, and welcome to the madhouse!

Greetings. I have attached a picture of the throttle bodies. As you will see their are adapters fitted to make them the identical length of the Dell'Ortos so the Plenum stays in the correct position. This photo was with the old controller that purely relied on manifold absolute pressure, but due to low vacuum we could only get 4 tuning points pre turbo, but 9 in turbo pressure. We then changed the EFI controller to one called a Dicktator that could take the TPS which was fitted on the end of the throttle spindle, I believe the BMW TPS unit.

One other benefit is there is less chance of fuel dripping onto the dizzy.

Nice. That efi stuff makes little sense to me, I'm learning though! Still, as long as it goes really really fast and embarasses modern metal, that's what counts.

Superb collection, thanks for posting the pics and info. I've had my '86 n/a S3 for over 10 years and I've never tired of it, so much fun and always an occasion to drive. Keep enjoying!

The red one had quite a history before I purchased it and I will not bore you with the details but when I purchased it, it had a blown engine and was minus the entire induction and carbs. I found a smashed lhd car also from 84 and this one had the engine but also no induction at all apart from a brand new turbo.

I bought the wreck and took the engine and gearbox out and had it stripped and rebuilt importing the missing Plenum and ducting and went the throttle body route with EFI instead of the carbs.

The previous owner had the car completely re upholstered in Connolly leather in 1998 and the interior is stunning.

I drive the car about 4000 kilometres a year and love every minute of it. In fact, taking it out this afternoon for a run.

Just out of interest, I took the car down to Cape Town for a long drive to a car show and averaged 12 kilometes per litre. Unbelievable.

Go well with your S3. Roger.
