1999 Esprit V8 Price? Problems?
Discussion
Hi all,
I am new to this board and am looking at purchasing a 1999 V8 Lotus. It is Red and only has 1,700 miles. The car is located in CA. I would like to see what you guys think the price of such a car should be and if there are any particular problems I need to be aware of to look out for. Thanks in advance.

One in really good shape should cost you around $57,000 to $61,000 at this point. Be sure and check for a maintenance history. I would also run a CarFax to be extra sure.
Also, if you are buying from a Lotus dealer, you have a better chance of getting a "no stories" car.

I would anticipate on spending somewhere around $60K - $65K. Price is a realtive figure and it all depends on the car itself. Condition, service records, color, buyers market?, sellers market?, etc... You get the idea...
If the seller does not have all the maintanence paperwork... Since the car has few miles on it, you will be able to get all the history records through Lotus US in Atlanta IF it was a "warranty repair".
If you are not purchasing the car from an Authorized Lotus Dealership, I recommend you have the car sent to one so a certified Lotus technician can take a look at it. It will be 2 hours worth in labor charges well spent...

On a personal note... buying a 2000 MY or later gets you several upgrades... AP racing Brakes, High-Torque ECU, updated paint schemes and the balance of warranty depending on the original title date.
If you're looking in California, check out Symbolic Motors. They have a nice collection of new and used Lotus in. I bought my 2000 from Mike Pedace last year. I can highly recommend Mike and Symbolic.
