How dumb is this guy, as a Saracens supporter I actually held back on any preconceptions of the guy when it was announced he was joining the team. He played okay off the bench and might have been able to work his way into the starting side, and with good performances, maybe even the number 12 jersey, but no, his ego takes over and he basically insists he should be starting at number 12 instantly, never mind the long time Saracens players he thinks he should just step in front of.

He doesnt get his way, so just walks away from a side that took a big gamble on him (since he hadnt touched a rugby ball in ages and was spending time trying to be a celeb) without any notice or appreciation for what they did for him, and joins Toulon. Played some decent rugby for them, but then lets his true colours show and starts taking jabs at his team mates, reulting in a fight and a ban.

He's like a spoilt little idiot who if he doesnt get what he wants jumps up and down, throws his toys, and instead of earning what he feels he should have, walks away.

Cant believe his attitude, perhaps there's a football team that will pick him up, but hopefully Toulon dont renew his contract, and no other top teams bother with him, and he gets what he deserves after systematically ruining the opportunities these clubs gave him.

I cant see him ending up in a top team again with this recent track record, so expect to see him in a smaller side where he feels like the big fish and always gets his way. If Wales are seriously desperate they may give him a world cup chance, but would show major weakness in their setup if they do.

He was a very good player when he was more comited, but right now rugby is better off without him and any other egotistical twits who think they're bigger than the game, rugby isnt ike that.

He should just retire, rugby doesn't need the likes if him. The really funny thing about this was he was mocking Jonny Wilkinson rofl

An embarasment to the game.

This isn't a football moan but most rugby players aren't in the limelight/papers all of the time like Henson is. He's been all over the tabloids at times as have some footballers who have also been complete tts. Is there a link to this kind of behaviour and celeb status amongst sportsmen? Do they feel they have to act the legend more once they are famous?
Another example is John Hopkins of BSB / MotoGP fame, luckily for him though he may get a second chance at the big time as he realised that he was acting the tt and got his shop in order yet still has the talent to be fast.

there is some hope that clearly the current crop of players can't withstand the tts like him- a bit like danny cipriani really- beleive all the hype about themselves, and care more about what they look like and how much they earn, than supporting their team.

There was a very very telling "competition" between Henson and A.N.Other (fit celebrity). who had to take a sledge and dogs to the NOrth pole (or somewhere similarly cold).

Henson was convinced he was going to win, and bigged himself up. But whenever he had to go up hills, the dogs got tired, and needed him to step off and run. Of course he couldn't be arsed, and when he lost the race, he threw his toys out and blamed EVERYBODY else including the dogs!

Im guessing they start surrounding themselves with PR people and talent agents, and get told constantly how amazing they are, and suddenly start to feel like they're bigger than the game or deserve a position more than someone who quietly gets their job done.

All credit to Johnny Wilkinson, who Henson apparently criticised as well. I did think that after Wilkinsons massive success came he might get caught up in the celebrity side of things, but he has remained commited to the game and never come off arrogant or expected to keep the position based on his celeb status, he is a shining example of how someone can be at the very top of their sport and still be humble enough to appreciate what and who got them there.

Henson could of learnt a lot from him and other players at Toulon, and also at Saracens, but he showed the man he is and will hopefully pay the price for it.

Just the same as footballers really, too much money and divorced from normal life.

Not really. Rugby players get in a year what football players get in a week. Kinda.

the nice thing is that the "football" style bling thing is very rare still in Rugby- that's why players like cipriani and henson struggle- there is no room for ego in a top flight rugby team, and those who require ego massaging tend to struggle. Of course there is a lot of arrogance, but is invariably backed up by skill and hard work.

Hmm, rugby players are model professionals? When I click on the BBC sport site I see the following rugby related stories:

"Hull KR are investigating allegations that full-back Ben Cockayne made racist and abusive comments on a social networking site.

Reports have claimed that Cockayne made the comments after he thought he had lost a wallet in a taxi.

In a statement the club said: "The club have been made aware of comments allegedly made on a social networking site by Ben Cockayne.

"The club will be carrying out a full internal investigation."

Cockayne, 27, was given a 12-month suspended sentence for assault causing actual bodily harm in 2009."

And:

"Wasps have lifted their suspension of Tim Payne after an incident in a London pub on Monday, but team-mate Andy Powell remains suspended.

England prop Payne and Wales number eight Powell were both suspended by the club after the incident, which left Powell with 10 stitches in his head.

Powell, 29, remains suspended as the club's investigation continues."

Well that didn't last long.

"Gavin Henson's ill-fated Toulon career is over after only two games, according to French newspaper L'Equipe.

Wales international Henson, who joined the Top 14 club in February, was suspended for a week following a nightclub incident earlier this month.

Toulon president Mourad Boudjellal had previously said the 29-year-old centre has been "difficult to manage".

The French club have not yet officially commented on Henson's future, but are due to make a formal statement shortly.

Henson moved to France after a short spell with Saracens, but made only two appearances before the incident, which followed a win over Toulouse."

Which is absolutely nothing about what he said though is it?
But of course you knew that and were just being your usual utterly unhelpful self.

Interesting though that you highlight Powell. Another player who rather divides opinion (Im being generous there) and that many dislike for having a perceived attitude problem. Payne though I know nothing about folks having issues with his character though perhaps some of our Wasps fans may be able to tell us otherwise.

Your other story is about League. Different game and ethos. Thats a proper working mans sport is League. And yes, Ive played and watched them both.

I think the issue is not that these guys are rugby players, more that they are Welsh! smile

Shame on Henson, I really wanted to see him to do well, just because he is/was a good player, not just a dumb celebrity. I'm sad to think I was right when I thought he was hopelessly shallow.

Apparently with his own [former] teamates, after deciding to take the piss out of Jonny Wilkinson, who has been at Toulon for a while and is very highly thought of.

A shame as Henson is actually a very talented player.

Look forward to seeing him on the next Iceland advert, or perhaps 'Im a celebrity get me out of here', and no doubt he'll start a relationship with another struggling celeb which will get him a few headlines.

As far as rugby is concerned, any club would have to be pretty desperate to sign him, and despite the flashes of talent he still shows, Id rather they spent their money on a young up and coming player who deserves an opportunity.
