so now they're going to a 10 team league and a 12 team championship league

is this just clutching at straws or will this rejuvenate scottish football?

It does nned a major overhaul top to bottom, No doubt there!

Have they inlcuded the TV companies opinions in their planning or are they pushing on and hoping for a deal to fall in place? I'm not saying the likes of Sky should decide how the leagues are redevolped but I find it sad that the likes of the Blue Square leagues and even Irish leagues appear to have a higher TV profile.
The fans opinions are more for bigger leagues leading fewer repeated games plus lower ticket/gate pricing to encourage bums on seats agains. But the clubs and authorities are ignoring all that from what I can tell.

All the noise is about the top level. There has to be major changes further down too. As it stands there is nowhere for the good junior set ups to go.

Rangers and Celtic should be allowed to play in League 2.

It would be more competitive for them then.

The proposed 10 team league is purely to bring the Sky TV money into the game. This ensures the most games, the 4 OF games, 4 Edinburgh derbies, etc. Any 16/18 team league who only play each other twice each season would be immediately less attractive to Sky so the TV money would be less.

The fans don't want the 10 team setup. It is dull and repetitive. Ticket prices are a joke, fans are leaving the game in their droves.

The chairmen don't want the 16/18 team set up because it would cut their income by approx 20%.

I fear the 10 team setup will win because of the financial implications. The fans will be ignored and just expected to keep on paying 20-25 quid each week.

For a lot of fans I fear the 10 team set up, if pushed through will be the end for them. Season ticket sales will continue to fall and fans will just pick a select few games to attend.

And this is before we even get to discussions about the piss poor quality of the football or youth coaching or summer football.

Scottish football is on a downward spiral and that looks all set to continue.

When I first came up to Aberdeen I followed the dons home & away and every game they started you felt they had a chance of winning.

Since the mid nineties they start against Rangers and Celtic and you feel if they can restrict the loss to 2-0 they're doing well.

The only other teams that offer up "attractive" opposition on a regular basis are Hearts, Hibs & Dundee Utd.

The rest is $hit !

It's doomed.

The only solution is to kick out all the johnny foreigners !

oh - and recently the dons have been complete toss !

Scottish football is at rock bottom - poor attendances, no money, refereeing scandals, etc etc.

Rangers can't even afford to keep their top scorer and have the bare bones of a squad, they'd have no chance in the English Premiership and would struggle in the Championship at the moment. Celtic would have a bigger draw in the English leagues IMO as they have a richer history, a bigger fanbase in the UK and Eire and seem to have money to buy some reasonable players.

I'm Scottish and can't remember the last time I watched a game outside of an Old Firm clash, I don't support a team so watch for enjoyment, Scottish football isn't a spectator sport.

yep as said above a purely financial decision that takes no account of what the fans want.

Cant think of many other businesses that finds out what their customers wants and does the complete opposite and still expects them to blindly pay their money.

shocking stuff, in the future teams will start the season purely trying to avoid relegation so look forward to very few youngsters being blooded and boring negative football.

I'm a life long Aberdeen fan and have not been in the stadium for 3 years this weekend!!
Scottish football is repetitive rubbish.

I know several players that have left Scottish clubs because they are fed up playing the seam teams over and over.
The 10 team premier league is only going to make this worse, so we have a situation where the players and fans are getting steadily more disillusioned with the game but the chairmen and Tv viewers are pleased in the short term.

This is a very short sighted move for the "good" of scottish football.

its going to end up with a 5 team premier league at this rate.

really bad decision to limit it - everyone is thinking short term - make money now - rather than lets make it interesting - letsput some more teams - bring up the quality of the smaller teams too spread the money so that in 5-10 years time its not the same teams/games again and again.

Yes, it's played with an inflated sheeps stomach. After the game we stuff it, deep fry it and eat it, whilst wearing skirts (which we know as 'kilts'), which we buy using English taxpayers money, which was given to us by our one eyed leader, whom we all love and all voted for.

think that's addressed most of the stereotypes wink

The jock football teams are having a rough time at the moment.

It gives us English great pleasure in seeing scotlands 2 biggest teams get hammered by little european teams.
Last season Rangers FC was in the worst financial position it's been in for years. Given the importance of finance to UK football at the moment, you could say we've never been weaker. No money for new signings, and even having to dispose of the likes of Kenny Miller. Rangers won the SPL and the CIS cup.

The European season was mediocre.

In the CL we drew 0-0 with Man U at Old Trafford and lost 1-0 to them at Ibrox. We beat Bursaspor 1-0 at Ibrox and drew 1-1 with them in Turkey. Then we drew 1-1 with Valencia at Ibrox, and were hammered 3-0 by them at the Mestalla. So we ended 3rd in the section, below the EPL winners and beaten CL finalists, and the team that came 3rd to Barca And Real in La Liga.

In the EL we drew 1-1 with Sporting Lisbon (3rd in Portuguese League) at Ibrox and 2-2 in Lisbon, so went to last 16 on away goals. We then drew 0-0 with PSV (3rd in Dutch League)in Holland, and somehow contrived to lose 0-1 to them at Ibrox in one of the worst games we've played in Europe for years. Put out in the same round were Liverpool and Manchester City.

Is this seriously being 'hammered by little european teams'?

And, believe me, this is us at our weakest. So what do YOU think would happen if we got access to the media money available to EPL teams? You KNOW what would happen. hehe

You'd be in the Championship the next season?
