Exeter City have released the news that striker Adam Stansfield has passed away this evening. Adam was just 31 with a wife and family, and was recently thought to have successfully battled against cancer. Such a sad loss.

Very sad news indeed, was a decent player at league one/two level. RIP.

As an Exeter fan, who has only just found out, I'm shell shocked this morning. He was City through and through and leaves a wife and kids.

Terrible news. frownfrownfrown

Awful news for someone so young. You can only think of his family at this point in time. RIP.

Bumped up to show this article about Adam in The Mirror today written by Oliver Holt.
http://www.mirrorfootball.co.uk/opinion/columnists...

Nothing more needs to be said about our much-missed number 9 but I draw your attention to this particular line;

"But a few weeks before he died (edit)from bowel cancer[/edit], Stansfield turned up with the rest of the Exeter players for the first day of pre-season training. No one had expected to see him there but he had always been the best runner and the most tireless grafter at the club and he dragged himself through the session."

Think about that next time you see on our of glorious England stars toppling out of nightclub while groping some vomiting Hollyoaks 'actress'.

If I was Capello I'd put that article in the dressing room next time England play because that guy was a proper bloody footballer through & through, not some overpaid tosser who thinks he has a right for everyone to worship his genius just because he plays in Premiership.

Holy thread bump!

Well Exeter have finished their season and the boys did Adam proud. Highest league position evah and we would have made the play-offs but for some stupid results (mainly against Brentford for some reason). Not bad for a team who were in the Conference a few years ago & nearly went bust. Can't believe a bit more isn't being made of the fact that we are still a trust run club (owned by the fans) and the incredible work done by the team and of course The Mighty TIS!!!

But personally I would like to think its all down in some part to the legacy left by our number 9, Adam Stansfield. And here to book end the season is another fantastic article by Oliver Holt.

The teams and the fans, it was all for you Stanno. You rest easy. crycrycry

Time for a thread bump, methinks.

Adam's son Jay is now 18 and doing fantastically well in Fulham's academy and has played a few times for the first team as well. At the weekend, he came on as sub for England under-20's and tonight against the Czech Republic, he made his first start and scored on 51 minutes. Before he was subbed off, he created an assist for another player too.

Lad's doing so well, just can only hope somehow his dad is watching him. cloud9

He’s doing brilliantly isn’t he?

Who knows, Stanno Jnr and Watkins both playing in the Premiership before too long? smile
