I know that Coyle played for them for a few seasons, but that doesn't seem enough to get him to leave Burnley. i'd rather battle it out, but I guess he must've had a great offer to leave one relegation threatened team for another.

I read this being described on another forum as 'Like leaving Ann Widdecombe to shack up with Susan Boyle'.

Can't believe he would turn down Celtic but join Bolton, ok Celtic are in a weaker league but the promise of playing in the CL next season has got to be more than Bolton could have offered. :confused

I will have to chuckle if Megson goes to Burnley, keeps them up and Bolton go down under Coyle.

As a Bolton fan I'll be very happy if he signs up.

I don't see any reason why the current crop can't be crafted into a more positive side.

Klasnic, Taylor, Lee, Cahill, Cohen, Elmander, Mark Davies Etc are all players that are comfortable on the ball and could flourish under Coyle.

And very unfair on Chris Hughton, who has done a magnificent job in very trying circumstances, and who I believe could do a good job in the Premiership, given a few quid to spend by Mike Ashley, (if he is still there this Summer).......

Not sorry to see Mark Hughes go tbh, he is a decent straight enough bloke, but needed more experience, and unfortunately did not have the courage to stand up to millionaire temperamental players like Sir Alex F would.

I'd pretty much agree with that, Cahill has been fairly poor recently, so if we get anything like the figures that have been flying around then I'd sell him. Knight is appalling so shooting him seems fair, but I'd give Elmander one last shot under a new regime.

As for the covering midfielder, I'd agree again, but McCann isn't up to it an Muamba just seems to be a complete donkey (albeit a hard working one)

As a neutral, i think Coyle is a great signing for Bolton. He's done an excellent job getting Burnley up and despite their away form they try to play good attacking football.

Like any club, Bolton have some good and some bad players and i'm sure given a little money to spend this month as well, he'll do a good job. I think they'll stay up no problem.

Who would you have gone for Tonker? I'd probably have tried Curbishley

It's certainly a more risky appointment than the media would have you believe, but I'm just relieved there's a chance it might work out and we didn't end up with someone like Dowie or Souness.

I guess its going to come down to how Coyle will want them to play and whether the players can adjust and win games that way.

Let's be honest, playing with the current system isn't really working either, (to the extent that you'd be fighting relegation still come the end of the season), so a new manager with new ideas and possibly changes to the way the team plays could keep you up.

Of course it could do the opposite and it'll sink Coyle quicker than the Titanic if you go down, but weirdly i'm quite optimistic about Bolton staying up under Coyle. Time will tell....

I've been reading all sorts of mince on other forums about this one. I hate reading about who is a bigger club Bolton, Burnley or Celtic.

As a Bolton fan I am pleased Megson has gone. He was so negative and in his last half dozen press conferences has done nothing but blame the fans for being negative etc etc. The fact is that the football we've played for the last two years has been awful has been nothing to do with it and we've hung onto every win that we've had. Only half decent game for ages was against Spurs.

Simple matter is Bolton will have to pay Coyle more than Burnley. He has had the backing from Gartside before who recommended him for the Burnley job even though it was nothing to do with him. So will have the backing of him when at Bolton. Burnley have really accomplished all they can under Coyle unless they get overseas backing but Bolton are a more tempting prospect because if he even achieves half of what Big Sam does he'll be an instant club legend.

All the folks who think he is nuts for turning down Celtic. Look at what happened to Strachan......he was hounded out of that club and was on a hiding to nothing after they lost the first game in Europe. Plus they have no money to spend and the only challenge/expectation is to finish ahead of Rangers in the League and win the odd Domestic Cup.

If Bolton sell Cahill he'll have £10-15million to bring in who he wants in the window which is a tempting prospect. For the first time in a while we've got an exciting forward line with Lee, Klasnic, Davies and Elmander and maybe he can sort Vaz Te out who has slipped from a decent prospect to a reserve team player.

I wish Megson all the best as he saved us from relegation but never pushed on from there. Gartside get your money out and give the new manager some backing without selling half of the team. I don't expect miracles but comfortable mid table safety would be nice for a few seasons and a few good cup runs would be good as well.

surely Coyle is destined for bigger and better than Bolton??

any manager coming in still surely under allardyce's shadow?

I think Coyle is on a winner at Burnley who I think will just stay up, Bolton I can't be sure of, why would he want to move on?

if he goes, Burnely go down imho.

Because Bolton are a better set up established premiership club with recent European football experience. Better stadium, facilities, transfer budget, players etc.

At this stage of his career taking Coyle on is a total punt, what bigger and better things could he hope for? Certainly not a top job until he's proved he can cut it in the top flight, which he has a better chance of showing with Bolton.

Bigger and better than Bolton......where exactly?
None of the top 4 in the Premier League.....

Everton - Moyes is secure there.
Sunderland - Brucie will be there for a while unless he walks.
Fulham - Perhaps if Roy ever leaves for something bigger and better.
Villa - No chance.
Wigan - Possibility but very similar club to Bolton.
Spurs - Not the way things are at the moment.

It makes sense for him to move, you can't undo the success he has had at Burnley a club who weren't expected to make the Premier League did under his reign. If they stay up they've really just met what is slowly becoming an expectation after the way they started the season off.

Bolton can offer him a larger wage, more international players, modern facilities and hopefully a decent transfer kitty seeing we spent next to nothing in the summer. Plus side as well is that he doesn't have to move very far and uproot the family. Burnley will also get a huge pay day which they'd have missed out on in the summer. Attractive job as well so shouldn't have a problem bringing in a good replacement. They play good football, have got good fans and aren't uncompetitive in the Premier League.
