15 minutes remaining and Arsenal are two goals to the good against visitors Stoke... and there are people leaving the stadium.

Not just a handful, I'm guessing a couple of thousand.

Is this just at Emirates, or does it happen at your ground too?

Happens at every ground..

Result sealed, why bother with the rush when you can leave a couple of mins earlier and be out.

Especially if your travelling back from Stoke to London or vis-versa. Imagine if Rangers and Celtic joined the Premiership.

Spurs fans were streaming out against Villa when they were 1-4 down under Martin Jol, Super Spurs turned it around to 4-4

it annoys me when its a home game though and the majority of people are just leaving early so they dont get stuck in traffic or so they can get to the pub first... these are the same people who bh and moan about the club/manager/players on the internet when the team is doing badly yet dont have the decency to applaud the team off the pitch when they win.... leaving early when you are winning at home just shows a complete lack of respect imho.

Spot on

Its a long way for me to go to a game so there's no way I'm leaving early, as I don't get to go every week.

The wifes parents always leave early to beat the rush but whenever i go to a game i always make a point of staying to the final whistle just in case i see a spectacular goal or some sublime memorable skills, or something like that.

I've seen it at Man United quite a bit - reckon it's the same everywhere. 15 minutes is way too early though, no point bloody going to miss that much of a game.

I must admit, I normally leg it with a couple of minutes to go (which is hard to judge sometimes with extra time going into double figures so often) but this is because I can't be arsed fighting through nearly 80,000 people to get to the bar or the car.

Leaving O.T 2 minutes early can save me literally an hour delay getting away from the ground after the game.

20 years ago i worked in west yorks I worked in a hotel and had to be at work for 6.30 on a sat night.
as an everton fan , goodison was just too far to make it back after a game.
i tried leaving 5 mins before the end which got me back in time but it only happened a couple of times and i gave up.
now I only get to one game a year and savour every moment -the last one was cup replay against the other side -magic, and if i'd left two mins early would have missed the goal!

A friend of mine was at the Champions League final when Man U scored 2 goals in the dying seconds. He had left 10 minutes previously and was drowning his sorrows in a local bar...

There's a lot wrong with going to football games these days: £3.50 for a 284ml bottle of camel's piss; seven quid for a hot dog; £8.50 for fish 'n' chips etc etc... (at the Emirates at least). I think the fan gets hammered enough for the ticket so I guess it's all about getting your money's worth (if the team does well on the pitch, that is).

But, it's all about the atmosphere and making friends with the people sat around you, or the ones you walk out with. Although Arsenal fans are not known for their chants and singing, it's always good to get in amongst a lively pocket of fans if you can... and they're usually the ones that are there until the very end.

Correct. But they are fans. Many aren't what I would call fans.

I have only ever left before the final whistle once, it was at Wembley during the 1999 division 2 Play-off between Man City and Gillingham. 0-2 down less than 3 mins to go and my mate and his dad decided that we were best to leave now and avoid the rush as we'd seen enough and were feeling pretty low.

As we got to the bottom of the steps outside Wembley we heard a cheer and thought that was the final whistle. We hesitated for a second then carried on. Then some two hundred yards down 'Wembley way' there was an almighty roar, oh well must have been 2-1 or 3-0 we agreed, and started to walk again.... then just as I took my next step I was grabbed on the shoulder 'hard' from behind. I spun around with my fists ready in anticipation to me told in no uncertain terms "where the fk are you going you silly , we've just equalised" I swear had it not been one of GMP's finest I would probably have let fly, but somehow all around me seemed to stop, hesitate and then everyone (several hundred of us) simultaneously turned 180 degrees and legged it back into the ground.

The scene was carnage, police and stewards in the isles trying to block the returning hoards, I heard one steward proclaim "no ticket no re-entry" ....big mistake as the returning fans just surged forward to get back into the arena.

The next 30 mins of extra time was just mind-numbing, no one knew if the 'golden goal' scenario was in operation as this was about the time that it had already been trialled. Anyway the rest is History 2-2 after extra time and City went on to win on Penalties.

Following City has always been a roller-coaster ride, inconsistency is our motto, but never have I encountered so many different emotions in their extremities.

This is what we missed weeping

I coach an under 17's local league team, we were a goal up with 5 minutes to go when our keeper was injured. I swapped round players on the park and looked to sub from the bench, only to discover that the substitutes had all fked off to the pub!

We lost 2 - 1

Never understood leaving early, even when losing I refuse to move till the final whistle. I don't know how many late goals I'd have missed leaving 10 or even 5 minutes early. I can kind of understand it if you have very young kids because of the hassle of getting out. It really pisses me off when after a good perfomance people are straight out without so much as cheering and a bit of applause for the players.

I can only come to the conclusion that they are not real fans, especially true of the corporate bunch in their posh seats and half time prawn sandwiches.
