Boxing Introduction?
Discussion
I've recently packed in weight training 3 days a week because of taking up rugby and lack of energy, however I'm having withdrawal symptoms. I'm looking for something where I can still keep my strength up and hopefully really sort out stamina, In my mind boxing ticked all the boxes?
I'm 20 and feel a bit reluctant to start something so skill specific, anybody else started late?
Looking for gym recomendations around Loughton area of essex also if anyone has any experience.
Thanks.

boxing training is great for stamina but is distinctly different than steady state stuff.it is quite useful if your primary sport is rugby because of the short burst nature of it.years ago when i first started i had been used to running steady jogs but these were turned into sprints for the distance of 2 lampposts about every 15 lampposts.this was exhausting!I'm 20 and feel a bit reluctant to start something so skill specific, anybody else started late?

when you get to a gym it may be worth paying for one on one sessions with one of the instructors to get you some basic technique without wasting months just aimlessly punching bags.the exhersion of 2 minutes on with a 1 min rest is the purest interval training i have ever done.the guy will probably take you on the pads to get jabs then one /twos going but importantly you are going at a pace pushed by him not you.once you are comfortable with this you will then be moved on to some gentle sparring.a little bit daunting at first but this is where it all gets to make sense.you will find sparring absolutely exhausting initially.sounds daft but staying on your toes moving in and out really takes it out of your legs at first, nervous energy saps your strength!even when you want the ground to open up and swallow you those hands still need to be up and you need to be firing back while maintaining your game face!cracking training that is quite unlike most other sports but will benefit your rugby.

no problem fella, just remember to get the basics right keeping your guard high sticking that jab out.final tip....when sparring, if you get tagged, don`t panic.close your guard and get out of range then go right back at him!!
Can I add circle, don't go straight back to this?Gassing Station | Sports | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
