ook in your local paper on a Mon and Tues and they should have all the results ... and the teams listed obviously! Pic a name you like or if there are pics of teams before they get a 0-8 drubbing or whatever, pick a kit you like and make contact. The local leagues will have a website and normally contact nos for the teams ...

Depends how seriously you want to take it - Saturday standard is best - Sunday pub leagues, you're lucky to escape with a broken leg after some matches ... biggrin

Also depends how fit you are of course. Fags are obligatory at half time.

Good old days, indeed.

Sunday league was just an extension of the violence from Saturday nights in the pubs !!

I played both Sunday and Saturday league. Sunday's was brutal - the last game I played one of our team fractured his skull. After that, I wanted no more.

Saturday stuff was much better but I had to work on the fitness side more. Lots of ambitious youngsters making me feel extremely old.

why not start off by playing 7 a side on astroturf? If you have never played before then you will get plenty of the ball and be involved throughout.

i loved Sunday morning football, much more fun than the Saturday match as it was a drunken laugh, last team i played for on a Sunday though were such a bunch of nutters we were a pub team banned from our own pub smile

I used to go out with a girl who's sister was with a Premiership player (he still is). We went to a wedding one weekend and I drove us both up as the girls were bridesmaids and had gone up the day before. I was regailing Sunday league stories and injuries and he simply couldn't believe it - he'd been spotted young and had risen through various academies, reserve squads and then first team - completely pro all the way through. He never had to battle past a 20st plumber know as 'The Cleaner' who was still half cut from the night before (as was I probably) hehe

well worth looking on Yellow Jersey as there is a notice board looking for players on there. you can also register and look for a team that way.

do you not work with ANYONE that plays - even 5 a side?

I think that my Sunday league career would have been cut very short if there was drug-testing, as Saturday “evening” didn’t usually finish until 9am on Sunday morning!

rofl That's where get agile or get fat would be the best advice.

I have the same problem as OP though. It was easy when I was in school, you just bounced from teams.

we always used to think we would thrash the team of pie-munchers but they played to their strengths which in ones teams case, was highly accurate passing so whilst we ran around like headless chickens trying to get them to play into a mistake, they would just progress up the pitch with their pasing before leaving it to the biggest guy who had a hell of a left foot on him.... gutted. all those nights in the gym and training just to be beaten by Peter Kay's bigger cousin.....

Ah Sundays, great laugh! I haven't been playing Sundays this season unfortunately but should be back into it after Christmas. The one thing I never understand is how half the team can have a fag at half time and then keep going in the second half!
