Live in Cornwall, used to compete, honeymoon was Oz and NZ for 5 months, etc. Love it!

Where abouts in Cornwall? My parents live on Gwithain Towans. Don't surf as much as I use to, but still love it. Spent two months in Ericeria (Portugal), best time of my life, waking up and jumping in the water. I'm not good enough to compete, but good enough make people believe I know what I'm doing. What board do you prefer to surf? I've got a small collection, mostly gathering dust. Should be down there in a couple of weeks. Live on the south coast now, so it's mostly kitesurfing for me now.

DMi - I live near Truro but grew up nr Polzeath. Usually surf Porthtowan, Gwithian and a few other spots. I currently have (all Buntys - he's been shaping my boards since I was 14!) a 6'3" x 18.125 ultra low volume for travelling (it's been bashed many times!), a 6'2" x 18.25" with a bit more volume for UK waves, and a new addition, a 6ft x 19" quad which absolutely rocks in almost any waves - utterly brilliant board that helps you make the most vertical of moves, the snappiest turns yet catches anything. In fact I'm heading in on it shortly!

Ericeira - probably my favourite European surf spot!

A couple of photos that are actually quite relevant!

This one is me at Godrevy:

And these are both nr Ericeira!

Then a token barrel shot - we honeymooned on Oz and NZ for 5 months - this is a scan of a photo. You can just about see the shadow in the barrel - that's me! Best surf I have ever been in!

I have everything crossed that the next few days will deliver a decent amount of water time (1.1m @ 11 secs with light winds being forecast for my local). I can count on one hand the amount of decent sessions I’ve had in the water since the spring frown

Swanjack - where are you?

I think it's been an okay Summer really - had at least half a dozen epic sessions. September has been a bit cack but there's swell around now. Think I'll hit Newquay Bay. Aggie will be rammed!

Just spotted - South Wales.

I went to Uni in Swansea (for the waves) and had a brilliant time. Got to know a few locals, judged a couple of comps with James Jones and Guts and surfed the Gower Reefs constantly.

This is rather nice Rest Bay a while back:

Have done once - in Galway (West Coast of Ireland) in the middle of winter. Absolutely loved it.

We asked the instructors how long we'd get in the water, to which they replied "the cold will make you come in long before we have to ask you to come in..."

....they ended up having to ask us to come in after about 2.5 hours!! biggrin

Was standing up (and staying standing up) by the end of the session. Couldn't feel my fingers and toes by this point, but we didn't really care.

Planning to go again soon.

If Rest is like that over the next few days, there'll be a hundred people on it !!!! Rest is the closest break to me, but I tend to go somewhere a less crowded. Guts was at Genith when I was last there, he was on one of his SUP's, amazing to watch!! Not like some other SUP's who look as if if they're about to take out the whole line up. Was down your neck of the woods this time last year, had a cracking week in Sandymouth.

Swan - I may well know people you know...
That day at Rest was amazing. Actually better than it looks in the pic. Had some good ones at the Point too and S*** nearby.

But we get more swell down here which is handy.

I'll keep an eye out for that yellow and blue board. I'm lucky, know the sunset surf folk well and they're kind enough to let me take my pick of the boards. Last visit I got a brand spanking new 6'4'' rusty Piranha, on condition I made it up and waxed her. Waves were blowing out but I got a couple of good sessions. Parents house is currently on the market, so my trips will diminish. Do you know Pete who used to own Sunset?

Dmi - I don't. More of a Polzeath area local (moved here three years ago, grew up nr Polzeath). Sounds ideal for you though - shame the place is being sold. Really like that area!

My regular board is now this little beastie and both my current Xcels (Summer and Winter) are black:

Well fortunately my uncle owns the place next to theirs, so still got a place to go.

And Ericeira, just awesome. The breaks just seem so consistent. While I was down there we caught the end of a comp. I was spending most of my time on crazy left and back door, watching Russ Winter pulling some huge ariels off of Reef, it seems ages ago.

DMI - been there twice, the second being to look at importing Semente gear. Didn't happen but got to know the Semente boys well - great boards and kit.

I surfed Coxos (YIKES! Scary!), Ribeira d'Ilhas and the Reef mostly but also went up the road to Santa Cruz when the other breaks got a bit OTT. As you say, a brilliant place.

Cool that your uncle owns that place - ideal!

Great thread.

Yup, I surf a fair bit, I live in Jersey, about 4 seconds away from the best surf spot in the Island, can see it from my window. biggrin

Riding a Webber Fatburner at the moment, 6' performance fish with quad setup, love it!

Big into snowboarding too.

Jackpot - nice one! Inlaws used to live on Guernsey but never surfed there - saw it working a couple of times but getting a board over on the tiny plane was impossible.

Also saw nice waves due East in Dilette (sp?) in France - we used to nip over there in the boat for lunch every now and again. Just a shame there's a huge power station nearby!
