My boss has recently taken this sport up and im wondering how hes doing.

1 mile swim in a lake in 35mins?. Hows that for an amature?. Im ok at swimming myself but couldn't tell you how long it would take me to do a mile in a lake.

recently started competing in duathlons with a view to triathlons next year, a mile in open water in 35 minutes is pretty good, i am a shocking swimmer and will always look to make time back on the bike and running legs but a mile in open water would take me the best part of 50 minutes... duathlons are a good besting session and more to my strengths though, so any triathlons will be for fun(?!)

triathlon is a great sport for buying bling stuff though, the toys you can buy are so cool!

Did an off road Sprint tri (500m sea swim, 16km MTB race, 5km coast run) in May - my first triathlon. Also done a few 10k trail races (running).

No idea how but managed to win the triathlon - my first gold medal!
Usually get 5th-10th in my running races. Best so far - 5/700 (charity race) and 5/120 (this was a much tougher race with lots of club runners).

Thought about doing more but no committed yet.

I did my 1st triathlon for 12 years yesterday. Just a short one with a swimming pool swim (in Sevenoaks). In 1996 I did an "Ironman" distance race (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile cycle and a marathon)in 11 hours and 18 mins.

35 mins for a mile is pretty good. It certainly makes him a pretty sound swimmer. The best triathlon swimmers would probably take around 20 mins for that distance.
