I'm looking to start up with something new, so I thought I would ask the PH masses for ideas.

I'm looking to take up a new sport and have some rough guidelines:

- I like competition
- I'm not into team sports - I need something I can do on my own, and fail on my own
- I like technical and technique heavy sports
- I want it to be doable all year round
- I don't like golf

Any ideas?

I should probably say that in the past I've done climbing, fencing and shooting...

Archery looks interesting but nowhere seems to do it these days...

What kind of shooting have you done?

Target rifle is fairly technical, especially outdoors where you have wind and range to factor for - quite a few indoor and outdoor smallbore ranges; not that many fullbore ranges, though if you live near Bisley you're laughing.
