This is the bit that concerns me...

Article said:
"We do not say that Mr Gerrard is normally an arrogant man, we don't say that he is a bully.

"What we do say is that that night he just lost his self control and joined in an attack which should never have taken place. He let himself down."

The jury watched CCTV footage which showed Gerrard and his friends dancing and singing football songs and downing shots in The Lounge Inn at around 3am.

Real time and slow motion footage was played of the footballer talking to Mr McGee at the bar for 23 seconds, then Doran elbowing him, and then Gerrard throwing punches.
Um, now if the CCTV shows Gerrard throwing punches - why has he pleaded Not Guilty? Surely he's privvy to the evidence prior to the trial? Has he been badly advised to plead Not Guilty?

Exactly what I was thinking earlier when I first read the news article.

Looks like he could be in some trouble.

The video is on Sky News. From what I can make out from the grainy CCTV pictures absolutely nothing of note is happening.

Apparentl going to go for self defence which I'm not sure will stand up.

It'll be a fine and some community service I imagine I don't think it'll be too major

I think he'll struggle to go for self defence, looked like his mate smashed him in the jaw then Gerrard started punching him.

The funniest bit is the larger girl dancing on her todd for most of the time, some cool moves

It's really hard to tell on the Sky News CCTV footage, but it looks like the both guys to throw punches are in white shirts, where as footage in the lobby shows Gerrard in a blue shirt, no?

Gerrard has apparantly admitted to throwing the first punch at this guy.

"During his police interview, Mr Gerrard admitted punching Mr McGee but said it was because he believed he was going to be attacked, the jury heard."

So Gerrard and his 6 mates seem to me to be a brave bunch.

Seriously, anyone else would get a criminal record and probably a hefty fine/community service. be interesting to see what he gets if convicted.

Not that its any excuse but he'd been seriously wound up by the DJ playing "Annie, I'm Not Your Daddy," several times during the evening. Not Mr Stevies favourite song that one......

it will come down to the fact of whether A. the jury find him guilty or not (obviously) and B. whether the judge thinks he should be made an example of due to his public status.

one day a judge will throw the book at a professional footballer - is this any "better" or worse than the joey barton incident where he punched a team mate?
Being a newcastle fan(someone has to be), this is nowhere near as bad as when barton belted that guy outside a maccy d's in liverpool. its slightly worse than when barton chinned ousmane dabo, but only because gerrard has clipped a "civilian". Now, as for steveie g, he cant EVER be compared to that usless, evil, retared piece of ste that is joey barton!! Joey Barton is a massive waste of vital organs and oxygen consumption!

Frankly his assertion that he threw the first punch in self-defense ought to be laughed out of court - so at the very least I'd expect a Guilty verdict and a criminal record probably accompanied by a fine.

Still...the British justice system has a way of throwing up some strange resolutions.
