Can you imagine this happening in football? Everytime a player goes down to the ground either for timewasting purposes, or to try and win a free kick. There would be no foreign players left to play in the Premier League!

Wow, 12 months for the player seems very harsh in light of gouging bans etc. More info required here I think.

The BBC report doesn't make much clear really.

He walks off the pitch with blood running down his face. I can't see how thats faking an injury? If your bleeding you have to go off.

But then he winked? - that doesn't matter does it if he was injured? and the blood suggests he was - or are they suggesting that the physio ran on with an authentic bottle of dracula blood to squirt on his face?

I'm doing some digging and apparently the allegation is that the physio did indeed bring a blood capsule onto the pitch. Quite how the club officials can be not guilty in this event is unclear, as to do such a thing would come from the very top. It's not like the player would decide to do it of his own volition.

No-one from the club is backing him up.
So what they're saying is that a player made up his own mind that someone else would be more use on the pitch, so faked injury to get substituted?

The guy was only following orders. Will scare players into becoming more sportsmanlike though?

The reporting states that the major evidence against him was TV footage that wasnt shown live during the game.

SKY cameras picked him up putting "something" into the top of his sock as he walked onto the pitch. Later in the game he was then seen to remove said "something" from his sock and put it into his mouth. Shortly after he had blood coming from there.

The contention between player v club is that the enquiry board could only act on the evidence it has seen and been presented to it. In this case the available evidence only incriminates the player...the camera picking up his actions...they have nothing with which to beat the club with, ergo they cannot convict any of the club ppl (the physio, DR the coach and another one) of any wrong doing as they have no evidence. By handing the club a £215k fine though, the board is very much saying that they hold the club culpable.
