I'm not even an Englishman, let alone a Lancastrian - but an Ashes test in fking Wales and none at Old Trafford.

The ECB may as well just sell the fking urn to the highest bidders, since it seems that all that matters is £££.

Absolutely fking retarded decision! Give them ENgland vs Sri LAnka, or pakistan or India - but the Ashes?

This is the fking Ashes, people. Where is your fking sense of pride in the history of the game that you are the guardians of??

Don't recall Jim Laker taking 19 wickets at Sophia fking Gardens!!

The ECB should be ashamed of themselves.

I hope we 5-0 whitewash your lot just so the idiot at the ECB who made this decision loses his job.

Twunt.

So what.

They've not played anywhere near enough cricket at that ground to host an Ashes test. Maybe sri Lanka, or the WIndies - maybe even the SAffers - but an Ashes test?

No history or heritage at that ground. Old Trafford on the other hand...

You're forgetting Trent Bridge - no Test there this year either ...

Keep the Test matches at the best grounds in the country in my view - it'll be like F1 next with host cities greasing the ECB's palm to get a Test match.

Yep, that is what will happen. Before you know it they'll play one in Dubai, or Bombay or New York City - mind you there is a bit of cricket heritage n NYC!

Old Trafford is traditionally fast and bouncy - a shoe-in if you're facing a South Asian team but not so wise against a team with players brought up on these types of pitches. Could be a blessing in disguise. Fwiw, I like Old Trafford and it's a shame it's not getting a test.

Given that the attendance at OT has been pants for a while, its hardly surprising that the ECB has looked elsewhere.

However, both Chester-le-Street and the Rosebowl have better credentials than Sophia Gardens.
