I sort of feel sorry for him but I'm not sure why. He made the switch to Real Madrid which turned out to be career suicide, has languished at Newcastle for the last few years, dropped by England and is out of contract very soon with no interested parties (except Hull City!!!)

What has happened to the former England golden boy?

He's no longer the player he was. After injury he just isn't as able anymore.

Hope he does go to hull, as I think he could be part of the squad that is missing. The kind of older experienced senior role.

Yep since the injury he did against Leeds back in IIRC 2001, he just hasn't had the confidence or pace he ued to have. These were IMO th assets that made him a cut above. I also hope he can make something at Hull though, would be good to see him playing regularly without breaking!

It's a shame, he was truly destined to be a great of the English game after his goals aged 17/18, but he has fizzled out due to injury. He no longer has the sharpness or pace he once did and I expect his awareness is still incredible.

I'd like to see him go to Hull and maybe score a bucketload given fewer injuries and force his way back into contention for England (I don't think he'll be better than the others)

It's now about desire for him, do you really want to play football, or fade away

I don't think he's that bothered anymore, he's more interested in his race horses and has been happy plodding along at Newcastle earning 100k a week. Shame as he was destined for greatness i feltfrown

His game was all about pace running on to great through balls by some of the best players at the time. He lost his pace after injury. As a Newcastle fan he asks for alot of money for little return and is quite happy to sit on the bench nocking one out over the racing times. Am i bitter? YES

I think he'll end up at Everton personally, which would be a good move for him for if anyone can revive his career David Moyes can.

Depends how greedy he still is though. Even though he's lost his pace i think with a returned confidence level he'll still bang in 15+ goals a season.

I think he's still a good player and with an injury-less run at a decent side he can score goals.

The likes of Villa and Everton should be knocking at his door, especially as he's on a free.

He has lost pace and is definitely closer to Emile Heskey rather than Wayne Rooney in terms of ability but he can still do a job

Spot on. I have a bet with a colleague that he'll be training horses before he scores another premiership goal.

Why feel sorry for him?

He need never work another day in his life.

I don't think he has ever really done anything special since he foolishly left Liverpool nearly seven years ago.

I think he is probably one of football's nice guys though.

My guess is he will end up at Everton/Stoke on £40,000pw.

I'd have him (not literally!) at man utd, ideal for on the bench and model professional
plus he does actually score goals when fit.

age diffrence between owen and robbie keane is 6mths, yet l'pool paid over £20m for keane last year!

I think he is a good finisher and with Jimmy Bullard and Georgio Armani (well something like that) I think they could have quite a strong attacking side.

Sky Sports News (early this morning) were reporting that he's having a "rigorous" medical at Old Trafford today.

They may well fail.

Or Man U may sign him to hire him out. If that is possible?

I just can't see him being up to a high enough standard for big games.

That'll probably lead to another injury!
