should the ladies champion receive the same prize money as the mens champ ? The men play much more tennis in sets and would the women attract as many ticket holders as the men. just a thought.

Would the women be able to beat the men if there were no institutionalised sexism?

No.

Less work = Less pay.

You don't need a NASA badge to work that one out.

There was some good discussion about it here a while ago.

In sets yes, but what about game duration?

Fill the court with naked totty. It would cost less and attract far bigger audiences

IMHO
yes

I'd actually queue for that.

No way should they. Until they have matches of 5 sets and epic encounters like last years mens Wimbledon final then they should be paid less.

Why should the number of games/ sets be the only factor? Some male tennis players make the game boring, with serve and volley tennis. don't ask me who, I'm not that big a fan of tennis. Women don't play serve and volley so the game is different. It boils down to how much the public feel the competition entertains; it's down to viewing figures, commerical viability and so on. If they tally up, then equal pay is not unreasonable.

[Disclaimer: I'm not sure that there IS the same appeal for women's tennis, though.]

Because its fundamentally the equivilant of paying a part time worker equal money to a full time worker. I think the draw of the womens game is not as great too but I agree that some of the men make the game boring.

They wouldn't be on the same money if they all looked Navratilova though ... sponsors love the women's game cos they have loads of fit young East Europeans women playing it - no other reason.

No, because they don't play as many sets.

I do prefer the women's game however. Men's tennis has turned into a serving contest. Despite the introduction of some hulks, the women do still actually play.

I think it depends who is playing.

If it is Ivanovic vs Sharapova then yes full money.

Seriously though I think it should be a pro rata basis.

Mens Best of 5 - £100k

Womans Best of 3 - £60k

I'll admit Ivanovic is worth the money.

most of them can earn more anyway as they are still able to play doubles and mixed doubles.

Most of the top men just play the singles (especially in the majors).

Clearly, what a private company (ie Wimbledon) chooses to pay its invitees is up to them. As per golf and football, ultimatley it boils down to how much sponsorhip and viewer $$$ they attract.

If the women attracted more revenue (pornography/modelling for example) they would naturally get paid more - or they would form their own breakaway womens tour and distribute the revenues as they see fit.

I suppose there will be calls for the Arsenal Ladies team to be paid the same as the mens team next rolleyes
