Is there some sort of "pathetic " gene which manifests itself in humans as the need to be a football supporter? Seriously, what is it about the game that makes even fairly intelligent middle and upper class gents act like such pointless little cock suckers?

I get to listen to it in the office all the time - tittering at "scummers" and frequently motioning towards me while they do. Erm, in the same way that I don't support "your" team, I also don't support Southampton as I think football is a game for retards? Oh sorry, I've told you that half a dozen times, but you're too fking thick to understand it, aren't you?

I had a visitor to my house the other day, never been round before. They stood in front of the sofa and asked if it came from DFS, no I said, why? "because I won't sit on a sofa from DFS, they took our grounds away."

fking retards, the lot of you. I expect it from the scum that think a good day out is getting pissed then bottling someone in a running rampage, but FFS you're wearing a suit, at least try and act like it shouldn't be a McDonald bib instead. It's been all fking day today, constant window licker's drivel.

The world is full of people who like different things. Get used to it. And since you want to take such an intellectual high-ground can I suggest you learn to swear less? Idiot.

if its any consolation there won't be a team in Southampton soon so that should solve your problem frown

agree the whole team rivalry thing is pathetic - when its Saints v Pompey its all "scummers/skates", then for another game its "southerners/northeners", then everytime its a world cup ... "england/rest of the world".

however, would have to pick you up on the "football is for retards" comment - we're called "special needs" nowadays! wink

eeeeer, I regularly attend football matches. I don't abuse anyone. I'm civil.

3/10. Ill informed rant containing very little substantive evidence.

Must try harder.

And yet of the myriad of different things, so very very few of them in life require you to put aside any basic common decency and become a complete tt, unlike football for which it would appear to be a requirement...

Just out of interest, when was the last time you went to a live football match and sample the atmos for yourself?

Because they would rather rely on tabloid press, and stereotype for their view. I went to Goodison for MANY year, until I left the UK, and never had a problem ever.

Not on the football terraces, duh!

I travel up to London regulary to watch my team play with my 8 year old step son and we always have a good time, I was just wondering what the OP based his opinion on?

what relevance is that to the way people act outside in everyday life? I'm not talking about the fights and tabloid portrayal, I'm talking about the every day effect it has on so many fans. Not going to an important seminar because it's being held at a rivals stadium, it's a CONFERENCE ROOM FFS.

I really haven't got a clue - Frankly I just stood open mouthed looking at him debating how to excuse myself from their company so didn't ask further.

I asked because I thought it might make more sense to have a rant about something after you have sampled it 1st hand, however if you are talking about the people surrounding you in the office then fair enough. Football is a game that is enjoyed my many and ruined by a few, please don't class us all the same.

Funnily enough that's exactly what I said to them. Not sure how it answers my question though, or indeed is relevant in explaining how it is anything but pathetic.
