Not really sure if this is the appropriate area of PH to be posting this apologies mods if its in the wrong area!

I'm looking to start learning Krav Maga in London, however there appears to be quite an array of places that teach it in London. Does anyone here have any experience of any?

Cheers

They are a well known organisation with M/arts.

Can't vouch for any of their instructors though.

My personal recc would be this guy: http://www.globalkick.com/index.html if you are looking for serious defence training.

I have worked with him in the past professionally; he is a lovely guy who seriously knows his stuff.

Any good to you mate? I've trained with Adrian Siman before and he's absolutely brilliant.

I had to quit as it cost loads of money, but I'm very tempted to start up again when I have funds.

The Manchester classes seem reasonable.
Sounds interesting.

I've heard this about KM. It's very profit-oriented.

Again thank for the suggestions people. What are peoples opinions on KM? I have just recently become interested in learning it as I've grown a bit bored with hitting the gym and would like to actually learn a useful skill.

To be honest it's slightly overwhelming the number of places that teach it in London so it's pretty hard to choose one. I've also had this one recommended to me (www.krav-maga.org.uk/) however it is pretty expensive - £80 a month! Is it a case of you get what you pay for or do you have to be careful not to be taken for a ride..?

I thought it was brilliant, but I you had to pay a hell of a lot of fees.

The course is good, and it works, it just needs to be a hell of a lot cheaper, that school I linked to earlier is just a few guys who travel the length of the country, so it's going to cost a lot in overheads. but £45 a month for 4 hours is ridiculous.

It is impossible to say to be honest.

£80 doesn't sound that unreasonable in London though to be honest. You haven't mentioned what one gets for that amount though.

As usual, the only way to ascertain a class's usefulness is to go and give it a try.

Give the guy I linked earlier a call.

Good luck.

I train in Hemel Hempstead (my club is called Streetwise, KM is one of several styles offered) and lessons cost £6 each.

Training twice a week works out at £624 annually or £52 pcm. If you're getting unlimited lessons, clothing or extra access to the gym outside of lesson times then I'd suggest that £80 a month isn't too steep - if you're committed to getting value for money!

Best,

I've previously done karate (Shotokan), kickboxing and Keysi's Fighting Method (KFM) and I'm starting to like the look of KM. Would be interested to hear experiences.

Keysi's what?

I have never heard of that; what is it, out of interest?

I don't think Krav Maga is more or less money-oriented than any other martial art (I use the term loosely). Surely it's individual clubs/instructors that are this way?

True, but the end result is the same. It's at the upper end in terms of costs and that's before you look at gradings etc.
