As a Man Utd fan, it saddens me to see Steve Bruce's lack of loyalty. The Wilson Palacios move from Wigan to Tottenham had him fuming suggesting that contracts weren't worth anything. Yet he feels its ok to walk out on both Birmingham City and now Wigan Athletic.

As my Dad said, who is a Wigan fan, good riddance to him.

Although not wholly surprising as it's the second time he's managed to shaft Wigan.
The man can't possess the greatest set of morals around - Happy to shaft various clubs and go & work for the Mackems (as a self-proclaimed Newcastle Comedy Club supporter). Still, that seems to be more or less the norm for your average football type at the moment.

Gareth Barry "wants to play in the Champions League" and goes to Man City. Plus many other examples throughout the leagues

Bruce gave you a lot of good signings from us (birmingham) on the cheap, palacious being the best one IMO and then sold them on for great profit.

He owes Wigan nothing - he made Wigan a better team and made them money.

Gareth Barry will be playing in the Champions league with Manchester City in two years time, when he will still only be 30, plus if someone offered you a £200,000.00pm wage rise you would not be tempted.??

Plus Gareth Barry has given Villa ten years fine service....He owes them nothing........

Fair enough, but a lot of these players he takes credit for were already at the club. Antonio Valencia instantly springs to mind. I'm not saying he isn't a good manager, anyone who can turn Titus Bramble from what he was at Newcastle to Wigan's player of the season must be doing something right!

Six months ago, when Keane quit,IIRC Bruce said 'If you cut me I bleed black and white, that's why I won't be the next Sunderland manager' What's changed in six months?
Quinny has come out with the same old ste that he did when he appointed Sbragia 'We had a lot of great candidates, but this guy was the top of the list'. Now we all have aspirations delusions where our clubs are concerned, but when you see names linked to the job, and you end up with someone who appears to be a serial quitter, you do worry about Quinns judgement.
He needs to remember we are very fickle up here and it wouldn't take much for the fans to turn on him.

being fickle is not a boast, just the truth biggrin

The whole article said this:

Wigan boss Steve Bruce has ruled out the prospect of him becoming the next Sunderland manager.

Bruce is continually linked with jobs that become available as a result of the impressive work he has done at the JJB Stadium.

The former Manchester United captain admits he would not be interested in the job because he would see it as an act of betrayal towards his former Old Trafford team-mate Roy Keane and that as a Geordie he could never manage Newcastle's biggest rivals.

"Let's nip this straight in the bud. It's a total non-starter," Bruce told The Sun.

"I'm very happy at Wigan and if you cut me open I'd be black and white to the core!"

On the Wigan note, I see they are after Roberto Martinez. I dearly hope the Swans can keep him, but I fear he'll be off.

Roberto has said that he will take Swansea as far as he can, talks about loyalty at length and seems to always want to have Swansea's best interest at heart. He's still got a job to do and has the backing of the board. If he goes his credibility and honesty will be shot to shreds, not to mention lots of jumpers of Mumbles Pier. He's young and has a long career ahead of him, for this reason I think he'll stay.

Remember that Dave Whelan was the one who brought Martinez to England and he played 6 or 7 seasons at Wigan and was a bit of a fan favourite. I think he might go to Wigan but we will see.

Well, yes I agree there...

We've got probably the best GK in the premier league, all we need to do now is get rid of Dunne and that useless waste of space Bridge, bring in a couple of £70m replacements and we will be there or thereabouts...smile

After this year's performance you'd have to say the Swans are strong playoff contenders for next season. It would be immensely gratifying if Roberto sees that and stays to continue is excellent work.

I don't like the persistent Wigan and Celtic rumours, though at least the chairman is saying 'no dice' unless Roberto tells him otherwise.

True, but Whelan is a tad racist from what I hear. He's made him his number 1 target so he's obviously changed his mind! That seems to happen a lot in football.

Doh! Opened a fresh thread on this before checking this one.

It will be a travesty if Martinez leaves us. He has built up a talented squad who want to play well for him. I can see the attraction with Wigan given the history, but he is young and has all the time in the world to get a top job one day.

The man has a history of it. He walked out on Sheffield United when he saw the pound signs at Huddersfield (yes really), and subsequently wasted their money. Then there were the 2 months at Wigan (first time round) and the 3 months at Palace.
Never seems to stay anywhere fo very long - enough said.
