Good! The more they spend on other players, the less they'll have to get Alonso!

I would love to see him play in the Premiership, though.

yes

My thoughts exactly.

(And a big thank you to Man City for snapping up Barry before Rafa had a chance to sell Alonso to fund the move!! smile)

He doesn't need to safeguard the presidency, he's only just been voted in.

Apart from a few minor details the deal is done.
Silvio Berlusconi has said "I see it as impossible to keep him"
He will be signed for 5 seasons.
€9m net to Kaka for signing. 50% of his image rights given to Real Madrid.
Real pay close to €70m
Transfer will take a few days

Perez can spend what he likes.

At RM, the money always comes from somewhere!

I wouldn't be surprised to see 100M+ easily reached by Perez.

He won re-election with the promise to re-ignite the "galactico" era.

I reckon Ronaldo will be off too......he might not get into the team in a year or two now......

Where do Real get their money? I thought they were in massive debt.

Actually scrap that, all our big clubs are in debt!

Yeh just loans after loans, but Real 'apparentley' buying all these players...which they probably won't buy anyone and it's just mind games. That Perez bloke was openly saying his aim is to get back La Liga's crown from the PL.

I'm not entirely convinced he has the 'game' for a long Premiership season.

That said - I'd love to see him attempt it.

Last time they were nearly £200m in debt, they managed to sell their training ground for (remarkably smile)nearly £200m to the local council. Who promptly provided them with the land (at the very minimum) for another training ground.

I wonder what they'll 'sell' this time around?

Basically, they are bankrolled by the government.

The above is a perfect example of the corruption.

Yeah...I've heard this before...got a linky for anything concrete on this???

I doubt it.

How do you think the rest of Spain would react to the news that their Govt is using their tax money to Support one particular football team?

How do you think the rest of the Spanish clubs would take that?

Its like saying the UK Govt secretly support Man Utd or Liverpool - its junk.

rolleyessmile

Not conclusive but enough to raise doubts with the EU:

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/europe...

Has also been mentioned to by at least one sensible Spanish football correspondent & there's no smoke etc. There may well be no conclusive evidence but you don't think they're dumb enough to make any convenient subsidy easy to find, do you?

Anyway it was the Madrid council this time around so arguably it wasn't that far removed from Manchester CC giving City the Council House for somewhat less than market value. The difference with Madrid is that this doesn't exactly fall into the one off category.

As for how the rest of the clubs take it, probably not that well actually but it has been going on for donkeys years & most of the rest are a long way from being whiter than white - If you know much about Spanish football, you'll know that much!
