What a design fault we will have to put up with for 100 years, the pitch is half covered in shade at 3pm, a roof that sort of closes, but does not cover the pitch that does not grow - should the FA face a firing squad, and the tv companies don't even mention it !

And the fans who sit in the southern end of the stadium are blinded by said sun

I'm sure there is a football forum somewhere...

Best thing they ever did with the place was tarmac it for the Race of Champions.

Agreed - the only time I've ever been there and I was also bemused and distinctly unimpressed by the non-closing roof (especially as it was about 5 below and anything that could have helped warm the place up would have been appreciated).

But surely someone was responsible for putting the stadium in the wrong direction.

They should have knocked it down and left it down. The Government should have put the funding into Silverstone. A much more worthy cause.

I agree with you that the place is st though.

I was contemplating turning the FA Cup final off the light/shade thing was so irritating.

The only solution is to play all matches at night under floodlights.

The real fans at that. All the corporate nahnahs only there for the free feed get a nicely air conditioned box in the shade...

yes, the great architect of the universe when he pisitioned the sun rolleyes

if you want the entire pitch in the sun you need to move the stands further back which would have meant that constructing a new stadium would have been a total waste of time

I pity the poor cameramen who keep having to alter their white balances every time the ball crosses the half way line..!

Having recently been to Wembley on a sunny day (up the Gills!) - it is not that noticeable and I was very impressed with the stadium.

However having tried to watch the cup final on TV it is terrible for TV. I second those - in that I cannot believe such a monumental cock up was made in the build that has created such bad TV events.

Surely, it's the ones in the Northern end(looking south) that get blinded by the sun? confused

I thought the design of the roof was in improve the pitch by retracting (when not in use)providing more sunlight onto the grass. Perhaps they should have done that, this leaving the whole pitch in sunlight, and even more heat? I didnt see the game but heard it was baking in there, but everyone watching on telly would have been happy.

I agree, although I think they managed quite well considering.
Have to agree with the OP, not a great piece of design.

Given it seats 80,000 people who need to be reasonably close to the pitch, wouldn't it actually be impossible to build a stadium that didn't have the pitch that didn't have some part in partial shade on a sunny day?

Right - so do you have any examples of such a stadium?

Didn't really notice it when I was there on BH Monday, but it did seem to completely ruin the TV coverage of the Cup Final.
I believe the arch was positioned so it doesn't cast a shadow - pity about the rest of the stadium.
