Surely I cant be alone in hating Andy Murray. I dont know anything about tennis and generally find it about as exciting as watching paint dry but that's not the point.

Why is it that every time I see a picture of him he's doing that bloody "roar" with his gob wide open and every vein and tendon in his neck about to burst through his skin? I cant stand to look at him, a fact that made my job as a picture editor at Wimbledon last year even harder to bear.

Do a google image search for 'andy murray roar' if you don't know what I'm talking about.

Added to that is the fact that he comes across as a thoroughly dislikable person, he is dour, emotionless (when not on the court) and miserable.

I don't normally feel compelled to moan about anyone but after opening the paper to be confronted with a shot of his tonsils for the millionth time I had to get it off my chest!!

ETA Ok the title should have had this bigmouth in it, not the word Bigmouth!!

At least he looks like he means it (the 'Henman roar' was never convincing).

I expect his psychologist told him to do it.

Us Brits are just not cut out for expressions of emotions like this - just watch a Brit high-five!

I can't stand him either.....and I'm a big tennis fan.

There is just something about his attitude. Comes across as such a morose person.

I'll never forget the interview when the journalist said he was British, and Murray corrected him and said he was Scottish. Not that there's a problem with that, I just find it hard to support a guy who obviously has contempt for the English!

Not as annoying as Nadal with his 'mechanical robot arm' pound.

Or indeed a search for every picture of him since as you state he will be doing that bloody roar.

wink

One of the things that annoys me about him is he is "Scottish", definately not "British".

Another things is he seems to be getting a mid-atlantic accent like some shyte commercial radio Dee-Jay.

Saw a pic of him in the paper this morning and I thought, "jeesus, the guy is number 3 in the world, but look at him, what a miserable sod".

He needs some good PR and a few pics of him enjoying himself, especially on court. He certainly does not come across as a charmer.

I was under the impression he'd only made one "anti-English" comment in an interview and that was when asked if he'd be supporting the England football team in some match. How many Scots do you think would have said yes in that situation?

I also fail to see why a top sportsman should be expected to be nice and pleasant and easily liked by the general public. It seems to be a bizarre requirement.

He has commented on why he says this - its because Henman, Bates etc were continually referred to in the Wimbledon commentary as being "English" rather than "British", so why can he not be afforded the same recognition of his place of birth.

Agreed his is a tosser though, regardless

Is that such a bad thing? He's proud to be from Scotland?

I wonder how many people in England would say they're English, not British - i'd say it's probably a lot.

edit: broke my quoting frown

Nor were his fans. Every time I heard some feeble voice in the crowd shout 'come on tim' I died a little inside!

Back to Murray, I realise he isn't the only player to do this but I think there's some compulsion within the media to only publish shots of him with his mouth open. It just makes me want to hit him repeatedly around his head with his bat (I had to resist the urge when I passed him in a corridor at the Artios chamiponship last year!)
