Fifa may use the FA's bid for the 2018 World Cup to push for the tournament to be removed from the list of 'Crown Jewel' events protected for free-to-air viewers, a Labour MP claimed yesterday.

Former FA executive David Davies is conducting a review of the listed events system, and Labour MP John Grogan warned that the FA may seek to use the system to curry favour with the game's governing body.

At the moment, all World Cup finals matches can only be broadcast free-to-air but Fifa and Uefa are challenging this in the European courts, and would prefer only matches featuring the home nations to be protected.

FIFA have for a while failed to represent the average fan, and this is a huge nail in the coffin for Joe Average who wants to watch good football. It was watching non-England matches like France vs Brazil in 1986 that made me in to a football fan.

At the same time, FIFA have spent $169m on a new Palace (sorry, office) for their headquarters. While giving just $5m to African grass roots football.

Blatter et al are corrupted to the core.

Blatter the coffin dodger is nothing worse than an MP feeding from the trough. He never has anything constructive to say and what he does say annoys/insults joe average footie fan! It makes me wonder if he actually knows anything about football!!!

as much as i would hate to see this happen, England arent going to win it for a long time now that the so called "golden generation" have past it and Capello seems reluctant to look to the youth so i dont really care. recnet finals havent bee the thrilling spectacle that befits the tournament... off topic but surely we should just take a hit and start playing the likes of Steven Taylor, Micah Richards et al now instead of flogging the dead horses that are Lampard, Cole et al.
