I think its a great move by Ashley and Newcastle. With 9ish games to go, Newcastle need a guy not only passionate about football, but about Newcastle, who will do his all to keep the club in the prem because he loves the club, who can motivate the players, get the respect of the players and knows what he is doing.

If it will keep them up i don't know, but i think its a very good move although it could be interpreted as a bit of a pr stunt by Ashley if Newcastle go down.

Well IMHO the first two posters are quite correct. Poppins can't lose. Although I still can't believe ashley has picked another manager to try and win the fans over.
Didn't Shearer say not too long ago he wouldn't work for Newcastle whilst the present incumbents were in charge?

Terry Venables? You say Alan Shearer doesn't come across as astute on the tv (something i totally disgaree with) and then champion Terry Venables?

Why does everyone always think of Euro 96 when Terry Venables' name comes up and not the last 4 jobs he has had with Australia, Crystal Palace, Boro and Leeds where he has produced appalling managerial displays.
