Is it me or is this ongoing saga the most complicated deal ever? I believe he should stay at AC Milan permanently but I don't understand if he gets a permanent deal why is returning to LA Galaxy at the end of June? I'm confused...anyone care to explain?

The way I read it was stay at AC Milan till the end of the European season then back to the US to complete their season before being back again in Europe for the 2009/10 season over here.

Very complex and I'd personally imagine Beckham buying out the remainder of his LA Galaxy contract so he can make the AC move full time without the detour via Los Angeles for the close season.

Hmm, still complicated. I hope he stays at Milan anyway.

I think the jumped up little st should honour his contract with LA Galaxy instead of trying to ewasel his way out of it. He'll be too old and slow for anything other than a cameo role in the England set up in 2010.

Totally disagree, I think he has still got it. Probably not part of the regular WC England Team but certainly part of the squad.

Still no-one is better in the England team so we still need him to do a job.

Beckham is still a fine player, anyone who dissagrees, clearly knows st all about football, and hasn't watched any of his games for Milan.

However, I do agree that he has a contract in place and perhaps should honour it, but can understand that for footballing reasons he needs to move to Milan permanently.

Business is business though, if all parties are happy and compensated accordingly, there's no reason he can't make the move.

What I don't get is Milan are talking 5 mill, and Galaxy want somewhere like 15 mill.

...but I thought Glaxy paid something like 250 million bucks or something ridiculous when they signed him? Wasn't he supposed to be the saviour of the MLS?

I think the vast majority of that sum was what he was expected to earn in total from endorsements, marketing, media etc over the life of his contract, not what Galaxy were going to pay him.

Suspect this was a greatly inflated figure anyway...

It's a shame we can't adopt the American Football approach of having special teams for each play then, isn't it. smile

I'm not disputing that Beckham is still a fine player; Milan wouldn't have recruited hiim for the rest of their season if he wasn't. My concern is that he will be even older and slower in 2010. He's never been an impact player who can come on for the last 30, and carrying someone who kicks a mean dead ball (a talent not restricted to Beckham) or puts in a neat 40 yard pass or half decent cross is not going to win us the world cup.

Although I'll gladly eat my words if I'm proved wrong. And I accept there is not much talent coming through that is better than he is on a dead ball.

Looks like the deal is done for now anyway. DB > AC Milan (EOS) > LA Galaxy (EOS) > AC Milan...

Respect for David Beckhamns continues to grow - he's funded part off the move out of his own (albeit considerable) pocket. How many prissy current crop footballers would even consider doing that?

He says he is "In it for the football", what a refreshing change.

He is one of the few players England have who can make something happen and turn a game around in a blink of an eye
